It’s hard to believe that there are only a few more days of January. Today is going to be the warmest day of the week with sunny skies and a high of 49. Sunday and the rest of the week will be in the 30s. I’m hoping to see a nice, pretty snow sometime this winter!

Here’s our weekly outdoor update:

51 days until Spring!

We are looking forward to some warm days in February and March to get the outside organized! Jim’s going to be making some new tables for flowers, and we are looking forward to doing a few other housekeeping projects outside as well!

One thing to get on your calendar later this year at Huck’s is a Perennial Plant Swap! Our plan is to have it on a weekend either at the end of September or at the beginning of October. In my head, I’m thinking it would be nice to offer it over the whole weekend where you could come at a time that is convenient for you. You could bring some of the plants you have divided at home, and then pick up some new plants that you have never had before. I’m hoping this could end up being an annual event that we could all look forward to! I’ll keep everyone posted on this one!

I’ve got two interesting gardening tips for us this week! If you are someone who likes to start your plants from seeds, once your seedlings start to sprout, give them a daily spritz of chamomile tea! This type of tea is anti-fungal and can help prevent dampening of your little seedlings. Dampening (when seedlings become and yellow and weak) is common when transplanting tiny, new plants into the ground.

Also, some gardeners believe that overlapping copper pennies around your raised beds will ward off slugs and snails. Some even glue them down to keep them in place. Both of these tips can be found at installitdirect.com.

One of my students asked me what I was going to be doing for Valentine’s Day for the school newspaper….I told him that I would be with my Valentine (Jimmy of course!), but that we would be making chocolate covered strawberries at Huck’s. Ha! We are happy to do it, and if you think this is something that you would be interested in ordering, please go ahead and do that soon. February 7th will be the last day we can take orders, so that we can make sure we get enough strawberries! A dozen milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, or a combo are $19.99! We’ve looked, and that is the best price around!

There are plenty of items at Huck’s for celebrating Valentine’s Day. We have chocolate covered pretzels, candies, licorice, teddy bears, chocolates, Dutch Delights, etc. We can make these into custom baskets if you would like. I am glad that there is a holiday to show are loved ones how much they mean to us!

The January edition of the Marietta High School newspaper is available at the counter for free! Pick up one to see our talented students write all about what is going on at school!

I have been looking forward to sharing some wonderful new products that are now available at Huck’s! Cornerstone Homestead is owned by Ben and Megan Williams. They have a farm in Marietta, and I got to visit them at their home a couple of weeks ago. They are the cutest couple, and I can tell they are both very hard workers! They raise goats, chickens, and pigs. Megan specializes in making all kinds of goat milk soaps, herbal salves, lip balms, and sugar scrubs. She brought these in this week, so they are for sale and ready to go! The next time you are in Huck’s, please take a minute to take a look at all the products Cornerstone Homestead has to offer!

This week we are going to be expanding our produce area. Thankfully, some prices on produce are finally dropping, like tomatoes and pears. Keep your eye out for some lower prices! I’ll definitely highlight this area next week!

We have gotten in some smaller sizes of Amish Wedding and Walnut Creek jams and jellies. If you are wanting to try a new flavor, but don’t want to buy a big jar, try one of the smaller ones first! That’s what I’ve been doing at home, and it makes it nice because we all have different ones that we like the best. I’m loving Traffic Jam right now!

We are now offering gourmet pancake mixes at Huck’s from New Hope Mills through Walnut Creek! You can choose from either Buttermilk or Complete. We offer flavored syrups like Peach, Cinnamon, and Strawberry. And you can never go wrong with Walnut Creek real Maple syrup or Indiana Gold Run Sorghum. For those of you who have never tried Sorghum before, it is made from the green juice extracted from the crushed stalks of a Sorghum plant. It is then steamed to get the excess water off, and then the thick, sweet syrup is left behind.

The Licorice and Horehound flavors of the Claeys Old Fashioned Candies have arrived!

We are making a lot more homemade soups. They are tasty! They go quickly once the lunch rush starts! Brenda makes the best homemade Creamy Potato with Bacon or Ham. We have blueberry bagels from Walnut Creek. I haven’t tried these yet, but they are on my grocery list for this week.

Happy Saturday to you all!

In case you were wondering, the Sutton Gym at MHS had a packed house last Tuesday evening for the fundraising night for one of our students battling cancer. It’s another example of how our area can come together and rally behind someone! Don’t we live in the best place in America! I love Marietta and the Mid-Ohio Valley region!

It looks like the upcoming weather will be similar to what we have been having. Highs above freezing and chances of rain/sleet/snow most of the work week. Accuweather is showing a coating to an inch of snow for tomorrow during the day.

Here’s what is going on at Huck’s this week……..

Jim got down our Christmas lights outside! We kept them up to make sure the outside had enough light for customers coming inside when it was dark. But you can really start to tell that it’s staying lighter later in the evenings. It’s still light when we close at 5:30 p.m. Yay!

I’m starting to make some lists of annuals, herbs, and perennials to order!

58 days until Spring!

Here are two gardening tips that I am definitely going to use this year!

Do you have big, deep flower pots that you hate to fill because they use up so much of your planting soil? Put old pop cans or leftover plastic plant containers at the bottom of deep planters. You will use less soil (and it is so expensive), plus it will create better drainage and air pockets for your soil. (familyhandyman.com)

Save your eggshells! Fast growing plants (tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard, and spinach) use the calcium in the soil very quickly. Because eggshells are made up of 96% calcium, they are a perfect way to get calcium back into your garden soil. Eggshells also help to equalize acidic soil. You can till them into the soil, put them in the bottom of the plant as you are planting, or pulverize them and sprinkle the powder around the plant. This is an easy way to be a green gardener! Now, let’s move on to the inside of the market!

Don’t forget to get your order in for chocolate covered strawberries. This is our first year having these, but we have a real expert who is going to be helping us! A dozen is $19.99 and you can get Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, or a combo! We can take orders until February 7th, and you could have them ready between February 10th-14th.

Yesterday, Jim and I made up a few sample gift baskets that are also for sale. Check out the pictures below. These can be easily custom made with candies and items that you would like. We have teddy bears of different sizes and different options for the bottoms (baskets, trays, hearts). There’s even one that’s full of hot and spicy items like hot salsa, hot pepper cheese, hot mustard, cinnamon licorice, etc. Wink! Wink! Lol.

Licorice! I never particularly cared for licorice, but my goodness, Walnut Creek licorice is really delicious! We got in some new flavors for you to try. There are plastic packages of the Strawberry Gourmet Licorice. We also have bags of Black, Cinnamon, Cherry, Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, Green Apple, Red Raspberry, and Watermelon. Give them a try if you haven’t. They are $1.89 for a bag.

We also got in some of the Claeys Old Fashioned Hard Candies Lemon Drops. We are having a little trouble getting in the Anise and Horehound flavors right now, but we will continue to try to get them in stock! We also have Wild Cherry and Root Beer.

A customer had asked for Vanilla Nut Clusters, and they have arrived! They are milk chocolate peanut clusters with a vanilla nougat center. Wow! They are as good as they sound. Actually, I haven’t gotten to try them yet. Jim brought some home for us to try, but the kids ate them before I had a chance to get one. They said they are sooooo good! Moms all around can relate! Ha!

Walnut Creek cream cheese is very good! Put it on a bagel or cracker with a little of one of our jams or jellies and you have a perfect snack or breakfast.

The bakery, deli, and sandwich shop continue to be popular parts of Huck’s! Thanks to you all!

Our deli will be adding Three Bean Salad and Fruit Salad! You can get them in individual containers or larger. Those will start on Monday!

Crafts, canned and jarred goods, and produce areas are stocked up! There are some adorable spring time items! And the Walnut Creek pasta items are selling well!

Duck Creek Candle Co. has added some room sprays to their line of products! They are very fragrant! We have Cinnamon Roll, Apple Farm, Citrus Bliss, and Honeydew. Also, check out their “Be My Valentine” candle. I’ll do another Wink! Wink! Lol.

We are going to be adding items from another local business very soon! I can’t wait to talk about it, but I will wait until we actually have them in stock.

Hello, everyone! I can’t believe another week has gone by! They seem to be busy, and before you know it, another weekend has come!

I want to invite you to come out to the high school on Tuesday night to watch the Marietta Tigers Boys Basketball team play the Athens Bulldogs. It is a fundraising evening for one of our students at the high school who is fighting cancer. He moved to MHS last year from Athens, so there will be all sorts of baskets raffled, and it will be a wonderful evening to show that both of our communities are standing behind him and his family. At the very least, please keep this young man in your prayers.

I looked up the Farmer’s Almanac weather forecast for the rest of the winter for the Ohio Valley. It says this winter is supposed to be colder than usual with lower than normal amounts of precipitation, but more snow than usual. Maybe we will see some snow to come, but Accuweather shows highs that are above freezing for the next 10 days. For those of us who like a pretty snowfall, we may be waiting a while longer.

Here is what is happening outside at the market….

We are still counting down to Spring! 65 days to go…..Think of all the garden planning we can all do until then!

Did you know there are cold crops and there are cole crops? I didn’t know about cole crops until this week. Cold crops are plants that like cool or cold weather. You can plant cold crops way before the last frost in the spring and plant them again in the fall, because they can survive through the first fall frosts. Examples of cold crops are: lettuce, spinach, peas, radishes, carrots, turnips, and asparagus. Violas and pansies are cold flowering plants (I also just found out that all pansies are violas, but not all violas are pansies…Ha! I have a lot to learn!).

Cole crops are also cold crops because their best environment is cool temperatures. “Cole” comes from the Latin root “caulis” which means cabbage. These plants are all cruciferous. This means that you can cut the stem horizontally, and you will see a cross pattern. Broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale, and collard greens are all cole crops. They don’t like temperatures to get much above 80 degrees. (fourseasonsgreenhouse.com)

Here’s what is happening inside at the market….

Our bakery stays busy baking all sorts of items for our customers. There are different varieties of breads, pies, and cookies. These are baked fresh every morning, and we even have a baker who bakes a few evenings a week as well!

We are now able to slice up our bread loaves. If you don’t see one out that is already sliced, just ask, and we can do that for you on the spot. It doesn’t take long, and we don’t mind doing it at all!

We really do love hearing suggestions from our customers. Last week, someone asked if we could bag up half loaves of bread for those of you who may not go through an entire loaf of bread in a week. What a great idea! We started to do that this week, and it seems like others liked the idea of half loaves as well! If you need a half loaf and don’t see one, we can separate it for you right then! Just ask!

Have you tried our from scratch Banana Bread, Banana Nut Bread, and Brownies? These are packaged individually to keep them moist and fresh. My favorite is the Banana Nut Bread.

Don’t forget your sweetheart and loved ones for Valentine’s Day. You still have a month, but it’s not too early to order a Valentine’s gift basket and/or a dozen chocolate covered strawberries! Our Valentine’s gift baskets will be out sometime this week. We are waiting for teddy bears to get here, but it should be in the next few days!

We now have decadent Hot Chocolate Bombs and Coffee Creamers made by local business woman, Vicky Hite. They are absolutely divine and are as pretty as they are delicious!

We have something new at Huck’s! We are going to be slowly adding some bulk items. We are starting with some spices and toppings. You can now find ground cinnamon, dried onion, course black pepper, imitation bacon bits, and Parmesan cheese.

If you haven’t tried the 4 oz. containers of September Farms yogurt, you are missing out! They come from Walnut Creek and have great reviews from our customers. They are so good!

If you are in the mood for Spring (ME!), take a look at our craft/gift area! I was able to find all sorts of pretty things on my trip to Columbus last weekend. There are porch signs, garden flags, hooked rug pillows, primitive runners, electric candles, tea towels, sprigs of Spring flowers, Valentine’s Day items, Easter things, and lots of this and that items. The ladies have it looking so nice!

I do want to highlight the Smith Redware Pottery that I found! Redware pottery was the very first pottery made in the colonies in the 1700s. It was made, because colonists had access to red clay in the soil. It has the most beautiful reddish color and beautiful designs painted on it. You can’t find many people that still make redware pottery, so I am happy that I found a company that does! The four plates that I got are in the pictures below.

Hello! I hope everyone is having a nice start to 2023. Jim and I are super excited to begin an entire year as the owners of Huck’s Farm Market. This will be a full year of learning for us, but we are having fun and enjoying ourselves!

Here is our update for the outside while we are waiting for March/April…..

Spring is now 71 days away! It’s coming!

Here’s this week’s gardening tip. It comes from birdsandblooms.com. (FYI: I flipped through the newest edition of Birds and Blooms at my mom’s house last night, and the pictures in it are so pretty. It has the most adorable Tufted Titmouse on the back cover!)

“When gathering seeds, always take them from the largest, healthiest blooms. Leave the flower on the plant until it is completely faded and the seed head is dry. Then remove the head and place it on a paper plate to dry. Shake out the seeds into a bag and store them in a cool dry place,” says Lois Wark, Reno, Nevada.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching!

We are ready to take your orders for Chocolate Covered Strawberries! The cost for a dozen of our chocolate covered strawberries is $19.99. You can choose from dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and/or white chocolate. We can also drizzle and/or add sprinkles if you would like. Please place your orders by Friday, February 10th.

We will also be making up some Valentine’s Gift Baskets. These will have a teddy bear, candies, Dutch Delights chocolates, chocolate covered pretzels and almonds, and licorice. We have 3 sizes available. We are now taking orders for these as well!

Calling all pasta lovers! Huck’s is now carrying some new Italian food products from Walnut Creek. We have Mrs. Wage’s Pasta Sauce packets. You can use fresh or canned tomatoes to make it. One pouch can make 5 pints of pasta sauce. If you don’t have time or don’t feel like making your own, we have two ready made pasta sauces. One is from Walnut Creek and one is from Amish Wedding. They are both delicious. We have packaged up macaroni, rotini, angel hair, and lasagna noodles. If you are looking for an easy meal this week, consider picking up one of the new sauces, some pasta noodles, a pack of ground beef or sausage from Zimmerview’s Meats and Market, some Italian bread from the bakery, and veggies for a salad. This is a meal that everyone in my house will eat!

Now that it’s winter, we thought it was the perfect time to add some Hot Chocolate Bombs and Coffee Creamer Bombs to our market. Local Marietta resident, Vicky Hite, is the owner of Hot Chocolate Bombs and More. Her bombs are not only delicious, but so pretty! And they are so neat as the shell melts to make your drink. We have a variety of flavors for the Hot Chocolate Bombs, such as: Butter Rum, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Oreo. The creamers come in different flavors as well. Caramel and Vanilla are popular choices. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a cold afternoon or to warm up on the way to work!

As promised, we have some loaves of bread sliced up for you. We have pictures below! If you want to make sure that there is one for you, you can always call in and order the day before, to make sure that we have extra bread baking the next morning!

Our mini loaves of banana bread are out and ready to go. $1.25 is the price, and they are the perfect snack or addition to your lunch!

In the deli case, we have some small hams that are already sliced. They are perfect to throw into the crock pot with a couple of cans of green beans. I like to make mashed or scalloped potatoes as a side dish or use the ham to make hot ham and cheese sandwiches. Nothing feels better than knowing all day that you already have something on for dinner!

Hope you got to try some of our new homemade soups this week. We have had Sausage Tortellini, Cream of Mushroom, Chicken Noodle, and Creamy Baked Potato. They all sold out, so we will definitely add them to our soup rotation! Our goal is to add homemade Soup Beans and Ham this week.

We still have a couple of large Walnut Creek bone-in spiral hams. They are roughly 10 lbs.

The Smoked Gouda has arrived! It has 45% butterfat, so it has a rich, smoky, creamy, buttery flavor. Sounds decadent!

Happy New Year! I love the new year! It’s a time to get a fresh start! All of our Christmas things at home are put away, and that is always a great feeling. I got a new Fitbit for Christmas, so I am excited to use that in the new year! Usually, we go bowling on New Year’s Eve with my sister’s and brother’s families. We have done that for probably 20 or more years. This year, though, the Peach Bowl starts at 8:00 p.m., so we are trading our bowling shoes for the couch and a tv! No. 4 ranked Ohio State is playing No. 1 ranked Georgia. The Bulldogs are favored by 6.5. LET’S GO BUCKS!

Here’s what is happening at the market…….

As we wait for flowers to fill up outside, there are 79 days until the first day of Spring, which is March 20th! Actually, I found a Spring Countdown Timer which says there are exactly 79 days, 9 hours, and 12 minutes until spring. That’s not too bad! We have been starting to get our flower and seed catalogs, so we will be ready! Here’s a link to that Spring Countdown!

Here’s what is happening inside…..

There will be two new homemade soups on the menu on Monday….Cream of Mushroom and Sausage Tortellini. I know we are still in the middle of a nice warm up (Tuesday’s high is 67!), but if you are like me, I could eat soup every day, regardless of the weather!

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon! We have some options for all of you lovebirds out there! Since we are staying open, we are going to be making up some delicious chocolate covered strawberries! We can do milk chocolate, white chocolate, or a combination of both. We are ready to start taking orders now! How romantic!

Also, we have been working on three Valentine’s Day gift basket options. These will have a stuffed teddy bear, Dutch delights, licorice, chocolate covered pretzels and almonds, and candies. There are three sizes available…..Small ($35.00), Medium ($50.00), and Large ($75.00). We can take orders for these as well! I’m hoping Jim gets me one along with some strawberries! Ha!

Our craft/gift area is clearing out nicely! We are trying to get as much as we can moved out, so we can fill it up again with some new things! Our sale will run for one more week! 40% off all crafts/decor, 25% off all calendars, cards, and planners, and 20% off all candles! I’m planning on heading to Columbus next Saturday to stock up!

Our bakery is still providing delicious baked goods daily. Items are baked fresh every morning! We just ordered a bread slicer, so we are going to be able to slice up some of the sandwich breads before we bag them! Some of you like to slice your own, but others of you would like the convenience of fresh baked bread sliced and ready to go!

Our deli will be offering Smoked Gouda cheese starting later this week. We have had a couple of requests to offer it, so look for that in our deli case! Also, if you would like to try a little sample of any of our meats and cheeses, please just ask! You may not want to buy something until you try it first. For example, I just tried the Walnut Creek Smoked Horseradish cheese; it’s delicious!

We have been planning some new classes for you! I really enjoy these evenings/days, and I hope you will find a class or event that you would enjoy as well!

Friday, January 20th 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Valentine’s Day class) *Merrilee and Duffy will teach you how to make hot chocolate bombs, decorate sugar cookies, and make a carnation flower arrangement. You will get a little bite to eat and a Valentine’s Day mug as a favor. We can have 12 people sign up for this class, and the cost is $60. Please sign up by Friday, January 13th, so we can plan accordingly!

Hello! It’s finally Christmas Eve! At least that’s what my kids think! Jim and I think….It’s finally Christmas Eve…..how did that happen!?! Ha! At this point, we all have to be ready, don’t we?

Everyone at Huck’s would first like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas this year! And it’s a white Christmas as well! Jim and I are so thankful to be able to celebrate the birth of Our Savior Jesus Christ. He’s been close by our side through the years and our lives are better because of Him.

The weather…..WOW!! I woke up in the middle of the night yesterday morning about 3:00 a.m. to strong winds. We live up on top of a big hill, and the wind was was very loud. I checked the temperature and it was 41 degrees, but about an hour later, it had dropped to 9. I know we didn’t get the snow that some forecasts were calling for, but they were right on with the bitter temps and wind chills. Looks like late next week we are going to warm up to the 50’s. We are going to make sure we get our Christmas lights outside down and put away with temperatures that high!

Christmas Break started for us on Wednesday afternoon, so I had the chance to enjoy myself with a couple of full days at Huck’s! I went in not knowing much about making party trays or gift baskets, but with everyone’s help at the market, after a couple days and a lot of practice, I’m certainly not an expert, but I’m also not a newbie anymore. Yay!

Outside at the market…..

Once it warms up a bit, it will be time to get the outside cleaned and ready for Spring. That’s a great feeling. I have 3 raised beds at home, and I’ve been reading up how to grow herbs. I think I will do that this year. Dried herbs can get so expensive, so I am excited to grow them myself. Do you have any new ideas for gardens at your house? Let us know!

Inside at the market….

We will be open today (Christmas Eve) until 3:00 p.m. All trays, pies, and bread orders are all ready for you and there is extra if you need to get a little something. There are still some crafts, candles, and plenty of goodies for last minute gifts as well! And there is one lone fruit cake still looking for a home! Ha!

I want to highlight that we are going to be staying open all winter! Some people have been asking, so we want to keep spreading the word. I think we are going to close a little bit earlier….not by much, but I’ll let you know those new hours next week!

Don’t forget about our soups! Each day we have 2-3 varieties to keep your belly warmed up this winter! I’m going to work on adding Sausage Tortellini to our menu. I have a great recipe for some, and I think you all would like it. It’s hearty and brothy. Brothy might not be a word, because it keeps auto correcting it, but it has a nice broth. It’s not a cream based soup. Do you have any other soups that you would like to see us offer?

We would like to do another craft/Christmas gifts sale for two weeks after Christmas. So….we will take 40% off all crafts. All candles will be 20% off! After Christmas is the time to treat yourself….

I am going to set up a planning meeting this week to get our events for the next few months on our calendar. I’d like to give you all plenty of time to see if one (or all) of our classes will fit into your schedule!

Hello! It’s officially the week before Christmas! All you have to do is be in a store or on the roads to see how busy everyone is! There are Winter Balls, Christmas programs, church plays, Christmas concerts and plays, holiday light shows, Christmas parades, parties, and other fun events. Christmas breaks have already started for some schools, and all the others will be out sometime this week!

MHS students are busy preparing for their mid-term exams this week. It’s always a good feeling when these are done and out of the way. Have you ever read Marietta High School’s newspaper The Original? The journalism class works so hard on each edition, and they are kind enough to put copies at Huck’s. They are up by the register and are free. Please grab one to see all the great things that are going on at MHS!

Also, the Scroll Saw class at the high school does a teacher appreciation project. One of the nicest and smartest young ladies I teach in Spanish II, made a Hucks sign for the market. How thoughtful! ¡Muchas gracias, Isabella! Check out the picture of it below and make sure to look for it when you stop in!

Brace yourself for some bitter cold winter weather coming this week! Accuweather is calling for a couple of inches of snow from Thursday into Friday. The low on Friday night will be 8 degrees with a Real Feel of -17! WOW! Sounds like we have a good chance for white Christmas this year!

Outside there is not much to report…..but there are only 15 days until I will start our countdown for Spring! I think I will also start including some gardening tips and tidbits of information. If you have any tried and true tips you would like to share with us, we would love to hear from you! Gardening and flowers are two of my very favorite things in the world.

Here’s what we have been doing inside………

Mostly this week has been filled with making gift baskets and boxes to ship out and sell at the store. Tomorrow there will be gift baskets to buy off the shelf. There will be a variety of sizes and items inside. These are really great gifts for anyone that you still need to buy something for.

In the produce department, we have all the frutis and veggies that you could get at the grocery store and our prices are comparable. You can find celery, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, yellow squash, cabbage, oranges, lemons, limes, apples, grapes, onions, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.

We are taking orders for cranberry salad, rolls, and deviled eggs. The cranberry salad was a hit at Thanksgiving time, so if you missed out on trying it, you will still have a chance to get some for your Christmas dinner!

We have whole Cinnamon sticks for sale. Cinnamon is really healthy for us. It is full of antioxidants and has one of the best smells in the whole world (in my opinion!). Simmer a few whole sticks in a pot of water on the stove, and your home will smell like you are baking cinnamon rolls! BUT when you really aren’t baking cinnamon rolls, your family will be really disappointed. Ha. Maybe you could pick up a few in our bakery.

We are ready for some more of your pie, cookie and party tray orders! It’s not too late! All you need to do is give us a call one day ahead, so we can make sure to have it for you when you need it!

The ladies brought in a cupboard from the outside porch and put it in our craft area and decorated it up today. It looks adorable! Before long I will be making another trip for some more crafts, but until then, check out our Duck Creek Candles, Lang calendars, all occasion cards, and Christmas cards, country gifts, garden flags, and shirts.

Walnut Creek Amish noodles are in stock for your Christmas dinner. If you think you will run out of time or don’t want to dirty your kitchen up, you can choose from wide, medium, or fine. My sister, Amy, made noodles at Thanksgiving using the wide ones, and they were divine!!

Finally, I wanted to talk to you about making your own charcuterie board for the holidays. According to the website “Tastes Better From Scratch”, the perfect charcuterie board has a variety of cheeses, meats, fresh and/or dried fruits, jellies or jams, chocolates, nuts, olives, pickles, dips, mustards, and crackers. Yum, yum, yum! We have everything you would possibly need at Huck’s to make your own board. I think I am going to do this for New Year’s Eve this year. If you Google them, you will get a lot of different ideas for ingredients and how to make one.

Hello! We had the best day today! Today was our Open House, and it was so nice to get a chance to chat and see so many of you. Since I teach full time, I don’t usually get to spend an entire day at Huck’s. I really enjoyed myself! Check out our pictures below!

Jim closed off the outside porch and we used that area for crafts/activities for kids, and Duffy’s Designs and Inspired Creations by Merrillee set up areas to personalize items and sell some beautiful Christmas greenery. There are 7 arrangements still left for purchase (4 live and 3 artificial). They are perfect for a nursing home, a dining room table, or a kitchen counter.

We have the winners for the 5 drawings today at the Open House. We will call the winners on Monday! Here’s what’s happening outside:

We’ve got the lights up outside to go with the live wreaths! Once the New Year starts, I’ll start a countdown for Spring! Since technically we are still in Fall, I won’t start that yet.

Here’s what we’ve been up to inside:

We’ve been working on basket orders daily, but we can still take your order! We have a display set up in the produce section which can give you an idea of some of our options. If you would like something different than what you see, that’s no problem at all! We can make you any type of basket you would like!

Fry pies and Whoopie pies will be in the store this week, hopefully, by Tuesday! You have been asking for them, so we know that you will be happy to hear this!

Christmas is not really Christmas without some eggnog!! We have eggnog in stock from Florence Creamery. It is sweet and creamy with a hint of cinnamon. Yum!!

There are still a few bundles of live holly and wreaths. They would look adorable on a fence post or front door. We also still have some white or red poinsettias.

It’s not too early to make your holiday pie or rolls order. We would love to help you out with this part of your Christmas dinner! We will also have plenty of our homemade Cranberry Salad on hand.

Stop by this week and sample some homemade deviled eggs and cheese and pepperoni pasta salad. We are looking for some new options to add to our deli case. If you have a salad that you would like to see us carry, let us know! We love to get ideas from you all!

We have a new pie for you to try! Apple Crumb….it has the best filling and topping!

We just got in some bags of Old Fashioned Christmas Candy! As soon as I saw it, it took me back to my Grandma Hall’s house at Christmastime. She always had this old fashioned candy and spiced gum drops.

Just a quick reminder about the party trays available for ordering. We can do meat, cheese, sandwich, veggie, fruit, and cookie platters.
