Hello! It’s another beautiful fall day as I’m writing up our Huck’s Farm Market weekly newsletter! If I had to guess, I would say that this is going to be the prettiest fall that we have had in a few years. I love all the trees as they change color, but my very favorite would have to be the bright orange-red!

Our market is in full swing for fall! I’ll talk about outside first….

For those of you still needing to decorate your front porch or stoop, it’s not too late! (I just got my porch done this past week!) The mums are really in full bloom now, so you won’t have to wait for the pretty colors to come out. We still have some large candy corn mums (orange, yellow, and white tricolor), and there are also 8″ mums in every color you would want. There is still some rudbeckia, kale, cabbage, celosia, and asters. I mixed a couple of bright purple asters in with my mums at home, and it is such a pretty pop of color to go with the yellows, reds, and bronze that I chose.

Just a little note to keep in mind, the weekly forecast shows FOUR nights with temps in the 30’s. Tonight (Saturday), it’s supposed to get down to 34! We will be covering our flowers here at the market and at home as well just to be safe.

Decoration wise, we just got another shipment of 3 large bins of pumpkins. There are large sized ones, medium ones, and of course the smaller pie pumpkins. Believe it or not, pumpkins and gourds have been a little tricky to come by this season. We got a lot of rain over the summer, and that sometimes isn’t the best environment for the Cucurbit Family of plants. This plant family includes all of the varieties of squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, gourds, and melons.

You can also still find some straw bales, Indian corn, and corn shocks to dress up your outside. I actually hung two bunches of Indian corn on my red front door at home, because I didn’t have a fall wreath, and I like how it turned out!

Now heading inside…. The temperature has been so nice the last week, so we have been opening up the windows and doors to bring in some of that cool fall breeze!

Soups have been popular the last couple of weeks! We are working on adding more kinds of soup to our rotation. You can always check daily on hucksmarket.com to see what soups are on.

Apple cider, homegrown Ohio apples, and caramel apples are all available, as well as a variety of produce. There are still some homegrown local tomatoes and we received some more Kennebec potatoes.

The bakery is one of the highlights of the market! Did you know that we offer pie by the slice or by the half? If you see one you would like, but don’t want the whole pie, please just ask, and we can cut it however you would like!

Each week, we have been trying to add to our grocery inventory. Some of the things we are adding have been at Huck’s before, but these are items new to us since taking over. Here is a list of new items in the goodies section: dark chocolate almonds (YUM!), toasted corn nuggets (plain and ranch), sour gummy worms, and Claeys Old Fashioned Hard Candies (Cinnamon, Root Beer, Horehound, Wild Cherry). If you are wondering what Horehound tastes like, it is a mix between black licorice and root beer.

If you would like to see us offer a product or item that we don’t carry right now, please let us know. It’s not a 100% guarantee, but we will try our very best to accommodate your requests! Chances are if you would like to see us carry it, others would too!

Which reminds me….someone asked if we were going to be getting Bahama Mama German Recipe Smoked Sausages back in stock, and how they are her husband’s favorite. We had been trying every week to order these, and they finally came! Jim thinks they are more seasonable, so this shipment may be the last until springtime!

Also, on that note, we have been asked by several customers if we had ever thought about offering a wrap for our gluten-free customers. I’m happy to say that we just got in some gluten-free wraps at the sandwich shop as well as bags of Snyder’s gluten-free mini pretzels and pretzel sticks. Let us know what you think of them!
