Hello! I hope you all have had a wonderful week! Things are starting to slow down at the Goeller house. Basketball and cheer will be ending in a week or two, and we will have a little break until baseball season.

Yesterday was the 100th day of school! At Phillips, the first graders dressed up like they were 100 years old. Monday is dress up like the 101 Dalmatians. Phillips Elementary is always doing fun things for the kids! This school year is going so fast!

Well, Punxsutawney Phil and Buckeye Chuck both saw their shadows on Thursday, so their prediction is 6 more weeks of winter! One of my high school students asked me why they use a ground hog, so we looked it up. Different countries in Europe celebrated “Badger Day” on February 2nd. They believed when a badger came out of its den and it was sunny, a shadow would be cast, which meant a forecast of a longer winter. When Pennsylvania Dutch settlers came to America from Europe, there were no badgers to be found, but there were plenty of groundhogs, so that’s how Groundhog Day came to be!

Here’s our weekly outside update….

44 days until Spring! It will be here before we know it!

Here is an interesting fact that I learned about sunflowers this week! Did you know a sunflower is not just one flower? The velvety brown center and the bright yellow petals are actually 1,000-2,000 individual flowers that are kept together by the sturdy stalk! I will have to take a closer look at a sunflower during late summer! (goodhousekeeping.com)

Do you have a flower that you are hoping to find at Huck’s this year? Leave us a comment.

Here’s what is happening on the inside of the market this week!

We are getting a good number of orders for chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day! If you could please make your order by Tuesday, February 7th that would be awesome! We are selling some mini strawberries out of the deli case for the next couple of weeks as well.

Valentine’s Day gift baskets can be custom made for your sweetie or loved one!

We got some more Hot Chocolate Bombs and Coffee Creamers for all you hot drink lovers out there! The Irish Cream is so pretty! There’s a picture of it below.

We have lots of snacks, goodies, and party trays that would be perfect for next Sunday’s Super Bowl match up between Kansas City and Philadelphia. I know many of us in this area were rooting for Athens native, Joe Burrows, and the Bengals, but sometimes that’s what happens (Heck….Jim is a big Browns fans, so we are used to disappointment. Ha!)

Huck’s Easter Ham Sale! It is time to order your Easter Ham! We have a good amount of sizes and varieties available for order. You can choose a ham from Walnut Creek, Superior, or Sugardale. Orders must be in by February 15th to guarantee your ham. You can order by calling us or messaging us on Facebook. Easter is Sunday, April 9th.

I want to highlight some of the products that Cornerstone Homestead has put in Huck’s! The handmade Goat Milk Soaps come in the following scents: Lumberjack, Orange Patchouli, Lavendar and Eucalyptus, Lemongrass Spearmint, Sandalwood Rose, Simple Goat Milk, Lavendar Patchouli, Home on the Range, Lavendar Shea, Honey Oatmeal, and Rose Hip and Clay. The salves come in: Sleepy Time, Calendula, Frankincense Boo Boo, Black Walnut, and Mint and Pine Headache. I had a customer buy the Sleepy Time and Headache salves, and she said they were both excellent and really work!

You can pickle just about anything! We have added a few new pickled items this week from Amish Wedding. Maybe you would like to try Sweet Pickled Gherkins, Pickled Hot Okra, Sweet Hot Dill Pickles, Pickled Mushrooms, and Hot Pickled Mushrooms. I do LOVE a sweet gherkin, so I’m sticking that on my grocery list this week!

We just got in DARK Chocolate Covered Marshmallows from Dutch Delights. Wow, they sure do look decadent!

A new shipment of Zimmerview Meats is coming today! Ground beef and ground sausage are both available!

Our produce section is getting filled up! Our prices are comparable to or cheaper than other stores. Only a few more months until we will have local, homegrown produce. I can’t wait for that!

Amazing products can be found from the following local small businesses:

*Cornerstone Homestead *Duck Creek Candle Co. *Duffy’s Designs *Florence Creamery *Hot Chocolate Bombs and More *Inspired Creations *Whispering Pines Bakery *Zimmerview Meats and Market

Friday, February 24th 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Spring Front Door Arrangement class) We will be using a variety of artificial Spring flowers to make an arrangement for our front doors! This is not going to be your standard front door wreath, so if you are looking for something a little different, please sign up for this class by Friday, February 17th, so we can get prepared for you! We can have 12 participants. I’ve added a picture below of something that would be similar. The cost is $60 and when you sign up, please let us know the colors of flowers you like the most. Merrilee wants to make sure that you will have a spray that you are happy with!
