I hope everyone has had a wonderful week! Who wouldn’t with the warm days that we have had? Although the cold certainly came back sharply!

Well, a stomach bug has finally hit our home. We have stayed relatively healthy all winter long. I’m crossing my fingers that it doesn’t go through the whole house! That’s a mom’s worst nightmare!

President’s Day is on Monday! I love reading and learning about the presidents and their wives. They are all such interesting people. According to a C-SPAN survey, the top 5 most popular presidents are Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Here are two fun facts about presidents: Teddy Roosevelt got a $20 speeding ticket while in office for driving his horse and buggy too fast down a street in Washington, D.C. During WWI, Woodrow Wilson had a flock of sheep grazing on the White House lawn for 3 years. It saved on man power, because they ate the grass, and the wool was used to make military uniforms for American soldiers. (nationalgeographicforkids.com)

Here’s what is going on outside…..

Our Spring Countdown is still on……it’s only 30 days away!!

There are plenty of tables and chairs for when we get some warm days here and there. You could come and eat a Huck’s sandwich and/or homemade soup while you get your daily dose of Vitamin D from the sunshine!

If you want to be a trendy gardener (I know we all like to be trendsetters. Lol!), try some succulents. They have been all the rage the last year or two! A few reasons why must be that they are drought resistant, can be grown inside and out, and come in a tons of colors, sizes, and shapes! Did you know that the aloe plant is a succulent? It grows back quickly and has nice, sturdy shoots. Growing up we always had a big aloe plant growing inside on the sill of our front window. My dad would cut some off when we had a sunburn or a cut. That is a happy memory for me.

Also, succulents can last forever and are prolific growers! In fact, my mother has a large clay planter that has holes on the sides full of a succulent called hens and chicks that are from my Grandma Audrey Iddings! They would have to be at the very least 40 years old by now! That reminds me that this summer, my cousins, sister, brother, and I need to get our own pots and plant some of these heirloom hens and chicks for our own families.

Well, I’ve convinced myself…..I’ll make sure we have a good variety of succulents at Huck’s this flower season! We have to make sure that we are keeping up with the “in vogue” gardeners. Ha!

Moving on to the inside!

Duck Creek Candle Co. has been in, and we have restocked our candle cupboard! Yay! If you haven’t tried them yet, they have soy wax candles in 6 oz., 12 oz., and 24 oz. They also make wax melts and room sprays. There is a price point for everyone! Prices range from $5.99 to $19.99. They have some delightful NEW scents for us to try: Vanilla Buttercream, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Fruit Loops, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Farmhouse Breakfast, and Honey Cornbread. Stop in and smell them until you find your favorite!

A big thank you to all for making Valentine’s Day a success at Huck’s!

Now, it’s time to move on to Easter! Our Easter candy has arrived. There are Peeps, jelly beans, wind-up toy bunnies and hens named Hoppin’ Surprise and Fancy Henny, gummy bunnies, and chocolate bunnies! There are some Easter crafts and decorations to help you get in the mood.

The Easter Hams were ordered this week, so we will let those of you who ordered know when they arrive next month!

Look for our baked from scratch raisin filled cookies today in the bakery. Better come early, because I don’t think these will last long! They are sooooo good.

The large jars of Vanilla Peaches have arrived! Yum!

The in-shell peanuts have been great sellers since last fall. This week we have added Cajun Peanuts for those of you who would like a little heat!

Our older daughter, Audrey, has restocked bracelets and has made some adorable mini lip glosses. There are many different colors and styles. She has also restocked the DIY bracelet kits.

I am so excited to highlight this next new product! We just got in Yoder’s Good Health Recipe tonic. Jim, my sister, and I have been taking one or two tablespoons daily for about a month! We all really like it! It claims to “put a pep in your step”, and I would have to say that we agree with that! Here is what is inside: Raw organic vinegar with the mother….20 herbs….5 fruit juices…..and it’s Non-GMO. The first time you take a swig, it has quite a bite to it. But now that I’m used to it, it goes down very easily. Some people mix it into another drink, throw it on their salad, or dilute it with water. The three of us just go down the hatch, and that’s worked well for us! If you’re looking for it, it’s over on the cupboard by the milk and yogurt. We are going to start a little health product area over there, so I’ll keep you posted on that as we add to it!

Zimmerview Meats and Market has given us a freezer with their logo to use on the market floor! By Monday, it will be ready to go, so you don’t have to wait for us to run to the outside freezer to get your meat, you will be able to grab it yourself!

A couple requests have been made for our homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup. I’m so glad you liked it. I think it is such a tasty recipe! I don’t have school on Monday because of President’s Day, so I’ll make up a couple of batches of it along with some Taco Soup. I love Taco Soup with a few tortilla chips crushed up, a little shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream on top. I’ll make sure all the fixin’s are there to go with it!

Our homemade Clam Chowder will be on next week for sure as well! Thanks for the requests!

There are still a few spots available for next Friday night’s class! Look down below for a longer description.

We keep adding to our bulk spices. We now have containers of Course Black Pepper, Chili Powder, dried Minced Onion, dried Chopped Onion, Lemon and Pepper Seasoning, Ground Cinnamon, and Imitation Bacon Bits. They are all very good, and we use the Course Black Pepper at home every single day.
