Hello, everyone! What a beautiful week we had weather wise! Signs are spring are popping up all around! My mom has some purple crocuses already blooming, and our daffodils have popped up with their buds. Spring sports are starting as well. This makes me feel happy!

Have you been hearing the Spring Peepers? Sydney was the first to notice them last Sunday, and now it’s about all I can hear when I go outside. Lol. (I wrote this before it got colder yesterday) I didn’t actually know what the sound was until I was talking to my sister about it. She called me one night this week and told me that one of her students asked her if she had heard the spring peepers. These male frogs are calling the females to mate. Once the females lay their eggs underwater, they will hatch 12 days later. Lastly, Spring Peepers are one of the few species of frogs that can actually freeze and come back to life! They become so frozen that their hearts stop and they look dead. Once the temperatures warm, they will unfreeze and start hopping again! (farmersalmanac.com)

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, you might consider going to watch the MHS musical “Matilda”! The first showing was last night. Tonight’s (Saturday’s) performance is at 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow (Sunday) it starts at 2:00 p.m. We go every year, and it is always wonderful! The kids are so talented, and Mr. Reider and the other directors work very hard to put on a great show! Tickets are $12.00.

I am sad that our movie theater closed this week. What a bummer. They said that the attendance after COVID never returned to what it was a few years ago. I’m sure streaming services have hurt their business too. I hate that it’s one less thing in town for our kids to do for fun.

Here is our outside update for the week!

There are officially 24 days until Spring!

Jim power sprayed all the tables and chairs yesterday. They look much better!

I found the best online article for gardening in Ohio. Check it out if you have the time! https://www.ohiomagazine.com/home-garden/article/backyard-garden-guide

Let’s talk about weeds! Weeds are defined as plants that are prolific growers and can choke out other plants and can overgrow in your garden. If you mow weeds down or just pick the part that you see above grown, chances are that they will grow back even thicker! How can you best get rid of weeds?….the old tried and true method of getting on your hands and knees and digging up the roots. I don’t mind weeding as long as I have the time. It gets very daunting if you don’t have the chance keep up on it! As you can tell, I know that from experience!

Butterflies are more attracted to weeds than flowers. As flowers have been cultivated and changed over the years to produce more blooms and colors, they have lost a lot of their scent. Here are a few weeds that you may want to add to your garden if you are looking to get more wonderful fragrances and butterflies this summer: Daisies, Creeping Thistles, Bluebells, Foxglove, Columbine, Yellow Sweet Clover, and Forget-Me-Nots. I do not want to plant anything with the name thistles in it (Ha!), but I LOVE Foxglove, Daisies, and Columbine. (mylifeinblossom.com)

Here is the update for inside…..

Lent just began this week, and we will be having some ways to make your lunches meat free on Fridays. We will have egg salad starting next week, and we will continue to make our Homemade Clam Chowder with Cheddar Bay Biscuits as well! This will last the entire Lenten season.

We have our delicious from scratch raisin cookies in stock again.

If we don’t have a pie out on the table that you would like, please ask us to bake one for you! You could call ahead or order one when you come in. We are also able to cut the pies in half or into individual pieces!

There are lots of yummy treats for Easter. I received a review yesterday about the Gummy Bunnies. A customer said they were very fresh! Along with that we have sanded gummy bunnies (they are just covered in sugar), Peeps (even chocolate ones), jelly beans, and chocolate bunnies.

We are able to put together some Easter baskets if you would like! These would be great for grandparents to give their grandchildren or to give a small one to a neighbor for a sweet surprise.

Our three bean salad is now in the deli in a bigger container. We had just started with having individual sizes, but we have had some requests, so now you can get a larger amount if you are wanting it!

Many of us love Kennebec potatoes! They are so creamy and delicious! Jim was able to get some in this past week! They are grown in Maine and are only $0.79 lb.

We have just added gift bags with tissue paper, rolls of gift wrap, and gift bows to our inventory! I got the standard size, but I could get some different sizes in if that’s something you all would like!

Craft Sale starts on Sunday! Crafts/decorations will be 20% off for the next couple of weeks! This is a great chance to pick up a little something for Spring or Easter! (Candles from Duck Creek Candle Co. and Cornerstone Homestead products are not included in the sale.)

I didn’t have room last week to talk about all the great things that are included in the Yoder’s Good Health Recipe tonic. This tonic has Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother), Apple Juice, Concord Grape Juice, Tart Cherry Juice, Elderberry Juice, Muscadine Grape Juice, Muscadine Grape Seeds, Elderberries, Elder Flower, Lemon Balm, Fenugreek Seeds, Chamomile, Juniper Berries, Wild Cherry Bark, Fennel Seeds, Green Tea, Star Anise, Thyme, Dandelion Root, Burdock Root, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Tumeric, Cayenne and Black Pepper. It is organic, and everything is grown without chemicals. Now that you know what is inside, you might want to come in and get yourself a bottle! 1-2 Tablespoons a day is all you need to reap the benefits!

Here are a couple of my own reviews! I had the chance to try the Amish Wedding Corn Relish. It’s so yummy! It is sweet and tangy. I wasn’t sure if I would love it, so I’m glad that I tried it! I also made breakfast for dinner one evening recently with the Complete Pancake Mix by New Hope Mills. You can add milk and an egg to the batter, but I just used the amount of water the directions called for. My kids said they were the best pancakes I had ever made at home! To hear that from all four of our kids really means it is a winner!

If you haven’t seen our cracker selection, please check out the picture below. We have Breton crackers in Original, Multi-grain, Veggie Bites, Flax and Sea Salt, and Gluten Free. These are perfect with a little jam or with some Walnut Creek cheeses and summer sausages.
