Hello, everybody! Hope you have had a great week! We did!

Last night, we had the most delightful evening making the Spring Door Arrangement! Everyone’s was unique, and they turned out beautifully! Please take the time to look at our pictures as we went from start to finish! As soon as I got home, I put mine on my front door. You can see that picture too! I love it! You can find the information about our next class in the events section at the bottom of the newsletter. Please don’t feel like you aren’t crafty or couldn’t make something look nice. These classes are done step by step, so everyone could do them!

There are over 220 different projects for Ohio 4-H that local youth can take when they are involved in 4-H. There are animal projects like: Dairy Beef Feeders, lambs, hogs, horses, rabbits, goats, etc. There are outdoor projects such as: Ohio Birds, Fishing, and Exploring the Outdoors. For domestic projects, you could take sewing, pets, finance, gardening, cooking, and even laundry! There are science projects about electricity, chemistry experiments, and the environment. In fact, no matter your interest, there is a project for you! Registration must be completed by April 1st. Questions? Send me a message!

Next, I’m going to talk a little bit about the Appalachian Trail. It is 2,190 miles and takes the average hiker 5-7 months to complete! The typical trek begins at the base of Springer Mountain in Georgia and goes up to Katahdin, Maine. Most hikers start in March and will be finished in September. Hikers need to walk 14-20 miles per day to stay on pace and be prepared for a cost of about $6,000. Two of the most beautiful views are Clingmans Dome in Tennessee and Dragon’s Tooth in Virginia. Even if we never get to do the entire trail, there are lots of spots along the route that I would love to see. (appalachiantrail.org)

Here’s our update for outside!

Has anyone seen the sun shining on Route 60 this week? That’s Huck’s! If you haven’t come by to take a peek yet, Jim has been hard at work painting Huck’s a cheery, butter yellow! We weren’t sure about the color, so thanks to all of you for your messages, texts, honks, and kind words of approval! You all are so wonderful! There are still three more sides of the building to do, but I’m confident in Jim to get the job done! Lol. Thanks, Jimmy!

If you are hoping to do some planting soon, check out our red and onion sets and Kennebec seed potatoes. Just think of how happy you will be at harvest time that you took the time to get these in the ground now! I bought a few potato bags to plant my potatoes in. I’ll take a picture once I have mine planted.

One sure sign that Spring is here is the arrival of dandelions. Before we mow for the first time, our front yard will have more dandelions than I’ve ever seen in one place. Usually it aggravates me, but I read an interesting article this week about how important dandelions are for the honey bees. Dandelions are one of the first flowers of the new growing season, and bees get both pollen and nectar from them. By May, there are lots of other flowers for bees to use, so dandelions aren’t as vital then, but they sure do need them during early Spring. So, I am determined to enjoy the dandelions in my yard a little more this year!

Now, let’s move onto the inside…..

Keep calling in for your Easter basket orders! We can customize them with all sorts of goodies!

St. Patty’s Day is on Friday! We will have sauerkraut to go with some corned beef so you can get some luck of the Irish! Sydney is trying to research the best Leprechaun trap design that she can, so she can catch one of those little green men!

Be on the look out for a couple of new items in our deli……single mustard eggs and single pickled eggs. Sometimes you don’t want to buy a whole jar but would just like to have one to satisfy your craving!

We are also going to start making Dirt Pudding and Golden Pudding this week. These are tasty options when you want something sweet to go with your lunch!

Our craft sale of 20% off will continue until we get some more items cleared out! I’m wanting to go craft shopping for the market over my spring break in a couple of weeks, so I’m hoping to get it cleared out to make room for new items!

A new order of tonic is on its way. We are glad that you like it as much as we do! We are going to add some Elderberry Syrup for Immune System support as well.

As promised, I tried the Sweetheart Jam. It is delicious! I ate it with a little cream cheese on a bagel. It is tart and sweet, which is one my favorite combinations. I think you will like it too!

I made a yummy chicken and rice casserole this week. I would be lying if I said all my kids love when I say we are having a casserole for dinner, but Jim and I both thought it was very good. The reason I tried this new recipe was because it called for Cream of Mushroom soup, Cream of Chicken soup, and Cream of Celery soup. I made it using the Walnut Creek brand of each of them, and these soups are very very good.

There are lots of baked goods made fresh by our wonderful bakers!

I know that you are starting to notice the new items from Forever Caroline! All of the artists are so talented and the quality of these products is excellent. There are little love notes, blank cards, note pads, etc. If you haven’t seen them yet, I hope you will look for them the next time you are in!

Cornerstone Homestead has restocked! They added some beautiful wood soap dishes in many different finishes (look at the cherry one!) and some Bath Shots in Lavender and Oatmeal, Milk and Honey, and Rose and Clay. Their products are luxurious and smell great!

Here’s some good news!!!! Egg prices have really dropped! They are down almost $2.00 a dozen from the cost a couple of weeks ago! We are also selling farm fresh eggs from Fagan Farms in Macksburg. They are nice big brown eggs. You have your choice of those along with our Amish eggs from Walnut Creek.

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax.
