No April showers this week! This has been the most beautiful Spring week ever! I hope you all have been able to get outside and enjoy the weather! I also love that it is staying lighter later. It makes me happy!

Happy Birthday to our beloved hometown Marietta, Ohio! On Friday, April 7th, Marietta celebrated its 235th birthday! I remember being in the 3rd grade at Phillips Elementary School when Marietta had its Bicentennial in 1988! Our wonderful teachers and principals of Marietta City Schools made sure to march or bus all the elementary students in the school district to Don Drumm Stadium for a celebration! I remember Mayor Nancy Hollister being there, all of us walking around the track, and I got to lead the pledge at the beginning. I’m sure that took a lot of planning, and 35 years later, that is still a great memory to me!

It’s time for The Marietta Times Reader’s Choice Awards! This is a great chance to let our area businesses know how much they mean to you! The nominees have been notified, and the first round of voting begins on May 4-11. Please take a minute during that week to vote once or twice (or actually every single day!). There are so many categories and such a variety of wonderful businesses! Here is a link to the information on how to vote and the nominees! (https://www.mariettatimes.com/readerschoice/#//)

I read a very interesting article this week in “Birds and Blooms” about feeding birds during the spring migration. Spring is actually a great time for bird watching in your backyard. If you keep your bird feeders filled up, prepare to be awed by some new bird visitors as they go north for the summer. Some say that grape jelly and orange slices will attract orioles! I’ll have to tell my mother. She is the queen of bird feeders! (https://www.birdsandblooms.com/birding/attracting-birds/feeding-birds/5-ideas-to-attract-spring-birds/)

I’ve been looking forward to giving our weekly update outside!

The outside of Huck’s is starting to become alive again with flowers and plants! There are combination planters, ferns, and hanging baskets. Remember….this is just the very beginning of what we will get throughout the next month! I’ll make sure to keep you updated on everything as it arrives!

I want to give a big shout out to the newly-retired Randy Richards and our boys, Cam and Seth, for helping Jim get the greenhouse ready to house our plants for the season! When you get plenty of help to pitch in, it sure does go fast. Thanks a bunch! And guys….what do you think about picking up a paint brush?? Hint! Hint!

The porch area is set up for you to enjoy your lunch outside if you would like. We love it when you come and sit for a bit!

We are getting in a shipment of perennials on Monday (April 17th)! Here’s what you will be able to find…..Yarrow, Ajuga, Bluestars, Astilbe, Bellflowers, Coreopsis, Ice Plants, Coneflowers, Blanket flowers, Day Lilies, Lavender, Loosestrifes, Catnip, Beardtongues, Phlox, Salvia, Sedum, Lamb’s Ear, Veronica, and Asiatic Lilies. There are too many varieties of each one to name here, but once they come, I will do lots of pictures. Herbs will be in this bunch as well!

Jim has been working on updating the sign area with some block. When he was taking out the railroad ties this week, he dropped one on his toe! If you see him hobbling a little bit, that’s why. It’s the deepest shade of purple I’ve ever seen! Ouch.

Here is what is happening inside…..

Our hours are later! Monday through Friday 9-6:30, Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 11-5. See ya then!

The hand-dipped ice cream is starting to catch on! For now, you can get a cup, a cake cone, or a sugar cone. We have nine flavors: Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberry, Buckeye Classic (it’s down underneath, so you will have to ask for it), Moose Tracks, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cherry Nut, and Cookies and Cream.

I’ve started to make some cemetery vases since Memorial Day is coming up pretty soon. These will be in the store this week! I know a lot of us make sure to put something new at the graves of our loved ones every so often. This will stay a year round thing at Huck’s, and if you have a color combination for me to make you, I will gladly do that! I’m going to be graduating to cemetery saddles soon!

Our canned goods section is stocked up and ready for purchase. Our prices are comparable to all the other grocery stores around, and the name Walnut Creek or Amish Wedding guarantees that the quality is the highest you can find around!

Did you know that Huck’s can make custom made cakes and cupcakes? Along with our delicious breads, cookies, and other goodies, we can make you any cake or cupcake for any occasion!

Look very soon for some made from scratch Raspberry Filled Cookies again. You have asked, and we listened!

Have you ever thought of having a get together at Huck’s with your cousins, sisters, girlfriends, church group, or workmates with a craft class, light refreshments, and an evening of fun and fellowship? Especially now, when the weather is warm and we can be outside, we would like to have you get a group together, and we can do the rest!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax at 740-373-0024.
