Happy Birthday, America! I love the land of the free and what our flag stands for! Our great nation will turn 247 on July 4th.

In honor of this, here are a few interesting facts about Independence Day! Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4th, 1826. That’s exactly 50 years after they had both signed the Declaration of Independence. The first fireworks display came on the nation’s 1st birthday in 1777. The two youngest people to sign the document were both 26 years old, Thomas Lynch, Jr. and Edward Rutledge. President Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4th. Finally, John Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence, and his signature is the largest! He stated that he wanted to make sure that King George could read his name without “spectacles.”! And of course, that’s why sometimes people ask for your John Hancock when then want your signature! In observance of July 4th, we will be closing a little early on Wednesday! Hours will be 9-3 p.m. Come stock up for your holiday cookout!

Here’s our update for outside for the week!

This week I’ve started to water a little bit more….definitely on days when temps are in the 80’s! I’m also going to start fertilizing this week as well. I’d love to see some pics of the things you have planted! Post a picture in the comments so we can all ooooohhhh and aaaaahhhhh over your pretty pots and/or gardens!

We planted some of our leftover flowers and perennials in some pots around Huck’s front door and around the sign area. There are still a few more to get in somewhere. We are going to put the last of the vegetable plants from Huck’s in the ground at home for a late crop of tomatoes, cabbages, and squash. We will see how they do!

Jim and I are taking a big leap of faith by planting 400 mums out at the house. That’s definitely not all the mums that we will need this fall, but we didn’t want to try too many for our first time. Wish us luck, throw up a few prayers, and/or cross your fingers for us and our little mums! Big shout out to Jay Huck for his advice and to our girls, Audrey and Sydney, for helping us plant!

Here’s the weekly update for all the things inside at Huck’s….
