Happy weekend to you all! Today is a busy day for many high schoolers as they are getting ready for the Marietta High School Homecoming Dance tonight! The theme is Disco Party. I’m sure they will have a wonderful time! It takes me back to our Senior Homecoming in the Fall of 1996 when I went with my high school sweetheart, Jim. He loved dancing back then as much as he does now! Lol.

Can you believe how warm it was last week? Well, here comes the cool down! The high today is only 58 and the whole week to come will be in the mid-60s. Perfect time for soup!

Congratulations to Huck’s employee, Izzy Becker, for being crowned Marietta High School’s 2023 Homecoming Queen at Friday night’s football game! She and Cam make a great looking couple and had a wonderful evening! Check out a few pics below!

Here is our update for outside this week!

There are still a few mums and asters for you all. Have you seen the blue/purple asters? They are so pretty!

It’s Pumpkin Time! Now that it is October, there is nothing better than a big, round, orange pumpkin sitting on your front porch or stoop! Did you know that pumpkins are fruits and have about 500 seeds? And 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are sold each year in October! People love a pumpkin!

Well, our Community Plant Swap didn’t quite go the way that I was envisioning it would! Jim and I talked about some ways to improve it, and we thought we would try to do it in the Spring. I think many more people are motivated to get out and get digging in the Spring than they are this time of year. Also, I think I will ask for people to sign up what they will bring to swap, then I can advertise what we all will contribute.

Here’s our update for the inside of the market!

Have you tried our homemade caramel apples yet? They are getting rave reviews!

We’ve decided to get a little more organized on the Soup of the Day by making a schedule! We will have a two week rotation of soups with our more popular soups making an appearance every week! Here is our schedule for this coming week:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Soup Beans with Ham
Tuesday: Creamy Potato, White Chicken Chili
Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Cream of Mushroom
Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup
Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Creamy Potato with Ham

There has been a Fall restock of the Cornerstone Homestead soaps and bath items. There is Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub and Brown Sugar Vanilla Sugar Scrub! The soaps for Fall are Falling Leaves, Orange Clove, and Pumpkin Spice. We have Falling Leaves soap at home right now, and it smells so good! Plus, it’s moisturizing!

Cornerstone Homestead also provides farm raised chickens and turkeys and provides Huck’s with some yummy farm to table cuts of meat! We are now excited to share that we have ground chicken, chicken kielbasa, and Maple Apple chicken sausage coming at the beginning of the week! These yummy meats are kept in our freezer outside, so just ask one of us at the market to run outside and get you what you would like!

Would you like a locally raised turkey for your Thanksgiving dinner this year? Cornerstone Homestead has 8 turkeys that they have set aside for Huck’s customers. The cost is $4.50 lb. If this goes well, we will hopefully be able to do more next year! I will have all the details in next week’s newsletter, but I wanted to get you thinking!

We’ve also had a restock of Peck’s Farm chicken as well! Stop in and stock up on some delicious local meat! We are so blessed to have such quality local products in our area!

We have a new local business joining us at Huck’s! We are going to be selling Haney’s Kettle Corn. They are out of Caldwell, Ohio and have all sorts of different flavors of gourmet kettle corn such as Cinnamon Vanilla Crunch, Pumpkin Spice, Strawberry, Jalapeño, Caramel Apple, and Original Sweet and Salty. Their first drop off will be sometime this coming week, and we hope you will pick up a bag the next time you stop in! Welcome to Huck’s Haney’s Kettle Corn….we are happy to have your products in our market!

I met the nicest man at the market, and he said we have the best cookies. I asked him which was his favorite, and he said the Coconut Pecan but assured me that they are all good as well as the pies! Grab some next time you’re in to satisfy your sweet tooth!

We will have some more fresh cut bouquets arriving early today. Yay!

The beautiful local tomatoes are still plentiful, so you might want to put BLTs on your menu this week. Grab some thick center cut Walnut Creek bacon, lettuce, and some homemade bread, and you gave a meal everyone will love! If you’re like Jim and me, we like to eat it with some deli sliced Swiss cheese just like they serve in Amish country!

It’s not fall time without cider! We have several different options for you! We have the Walnut Creek Cider in the plastic jug, different flavored ciders in glass jugs and Aspen Mulled Cider which you can make yourself. Which is your favorite?

All the Ohio apples we have are so good! Last week, I bought a couple apples of every kind, and every day this week I had a different apple for lunch. They were all sooooo good! Don’t they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Let’s hope!

Sew Scrunchies has added some orange and black scrunchies to the spinner display near the checkout. They are orange and black, so they are perfect for Tiger fans and for Halloween!

Please help clean out the craft section! All crafts are 25% off for one final week! I’m going to be heading up next Saturday to Columbus to buy some Christmas things! I can’t wait!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, fruit, cookie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, parties, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call us at 740-374-2484, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax at 740-373-0024.
