Newsletter #31: April 22-28

It’s already the last week of April! It seems like it was just New Year’s!

The up and down weather can be a little tiresome with baseball games, but overall we have had a nice spring. Sometimes we are all bundled up with scarves and blankets, and other evenings it is just perfect for a game! Next week, the highs are in the 50’s or 60’s, and there are a few nights where the lows will be in the 30’s. Sunday and Monday’s lows are 35, so be on the look for frost!

Today, Saturday, April 22nd, is Earth Day! The very first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. This was a grassroots demonstration that grew and started environmental legislation being passed in Washington. President Nixon, who was the president at this time, formed the EPA, which led to the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Endangered Species Act.

If you are looking for something to do for Earth Day, The Old Farmer’s Almanac gives some great ideas for ways to celebrate Mother Earth. Here are a couple: plant a tree or plants that help pollinators, buy mulch and potting soil in bulk to reduce the number of plastic bags you use, and pass along your love for plants to your children or grandchildren, so they will continue growing plants as they get older. Finally, the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge is shuttling people by boat to Buckley Island to plant trees today! You can meet at the Williamstown Boat Ramp between 1-2 p.m.

Here’s our weekly update for outside!

Jim’s been laying block around the sign! He just has to cap it off (whatever that means!), and it will be all done! Looks good, hub!

A couple more shipments of flowers came this week! Here are the details of what you can find here at Huck’s….Geraniums, Snowflake, Sweet Potato vines, Allyson Mexican Heather, Million Bells, petunias, Coleus, Blue Wonder, Dahlias, Impatiens, New Guinea Impatiens, Gerber Daisies, Verbena, Begonias, Dainthus, Vinca, Marigolds, Portulaca, Mojave, Lavender, Bachelor’s Buttons, Succulents, Celosia, Alyssum, Salvia, and Snapdragons.

There are also vegetable plants, strawberries, and perennials as well!

Tea roses (Yay! I LOVE ROSES!) and a bunch more hanging baskets and other plants are on their way! These will be coming soon!

Do you still want to get on the list for those heirloom Anderson tomatoes? It’s still not too late! Give us a call!

Since we have been talking so much about tomatoes in our newsletter the last few weeks, I thought I would highlight a good article I read about what to add to the hole before you plant so that you can be the envy of all your neighbors, family, and friends with the biggest and sweetest tomatoes around! Here is their list: baking soda, fish heads, aspirin, eggshells, epsom salts, kelp meal, bone meal, and/or used coffee grounds. You can try one, a combination, or all eight! Maybe we can experiment and share what worked the best for us….https://balconygardenweb.com/put-8-things-tomato-planting-hole-best-tomatoes-ever/

Here is what’s happening inside….

Graduation is going to be here before you know it! We are now taking orders for meat, cheese, veggie, fruit, and sandwich trays for graduation parties. Let Huck’s take a little of the stress away from you, so you can enjoy celebrating your loved one’s milestone accomplishment!

We have started to carry a regional salsa from Zanesville called Jose Madrid. It is tasty! We have 6 new pints to try with flavors like Peach Mild, Original Mild, Hot Mild, and Spanish Verde. We really do love to include local businesses at Huck’s, so we are happy to include these products on our shelves.

Duck Creek Candle Co. has just restocked with candles, melts, room sprays and potpourri! They use soy wax, and the best fragrances to get amazing smells like Granny’s Kitchen, Pumpkin Praline Crunch, Fruit Loops, and Honeysuckle.

We are stocked and full of ground beef and ground sausage from Zimmerview Meats and Market. It’s the freshest meat around!

Audrey has been making new bracelets and lip glosses. These have been added to the counter area.

Try the Elderberry Syrup or Yoder’s Good Health Recipe tonic. Jim and I like both of these!

Grab yourself the latest edition of Marietta High School’s The Original for the month of April! It’s a great way to see how the great things that are going on.

There is a big variety of chips to choose from Utz, Conn’s, Mister Bee’s, Frito Lay’s, and Walnut Creek. And there are a number of different snack mixes, peanuts, fudge, pretzels, candies, etc. There is certainly something for everyone!

If you haven’t tried our Velvet hand-dipped ice cream yet, you are missing out. Ask for a sample if you would like!

There are plenty of muffins, cookies, pies, and breads of all types. We hope you will try something new the next time you stop by!

If you are in a hurry and don’t want to wait for us to slice up your deli meat, call ahead and we can get it all ready for you. That way you can get in and out and get on with your day!

I am planning on making more floral grave vases this weekend. I also plan on ordering supplies to make some saddles this week. We can take orders for these. That will ensure you get what you would like to decorate your loved one’s headstone.

Newsletter #30: April 15-21

No April showers this week! This has been the most beautiful Spring week ever! I hope you all have been able to get outside and enjoy the weather! I also love that it is staying lighter later. It makes me happy!

Happy Birthday to our beloved hometown Marietta, Ohio! On Friday, April 7th, Marietta celebrated its 235th birthday! I remember being in the 3rd grade at Phillips Elementary School when Marietta had its Bicentennial in 1988! Our wonderful teachers and principals of Marietta City Schools made sure to march or bus all the elementary students in the school district to Don Drumm Stadium for a celebration! I remember Mayor Nancy Hollister being there, all of us walking around the track, and I got to lead the pledge at the beginning. I’m sure that took a lot of planning, and 35 years later, that is still a great memory to me!

It’s time for The Marietta Times Reader’s Choice Awards! This is a great chance to let our area businesses know how much they mean to you! The nominees have been notified, and the first round of voting begins on May 4-11. Please take a minute during that week to vote once or twice (or actually every single day!). There are so many categories and such a variety of wonderful businesses! Here is a link to the information on how to vote and the nominees! (https://www.mariettatimes.com/readerschoice/#//)

I read a very interesting article this week in “Birds and Blooms” about feeding birds during the spring migration. Spring is actually a great time for bird watching in your backyard. If you keep your bird feeders filled up, prepare to be awed by some new bird visitors as they go north for the summer. Some say that grape jelly and orange slices will attract orioles! I’ll have to tell my mother. She is the queen of bird feeders! (https://www.birdsandblooms.com/birding/attracting-birds/feeding-birds/5-ideas-to-attract-spring-birds/)

I’ve been looking forward to giving our weekly update outside!

The outside of Huck’s is starting to become alive again with flowers and plants! There are combination planters, ferns, and hanging baskets. Remember….this is just the very beginning of what we will get throughout the next month! I’ll make sure to keep you updated on everything as it arrives!

We have plenty of tomato plants to get us started. Here’s what we have so far: Beefmaster, Better Boy, Big Boy, Celebrity, Early Girl, Supersonic, Brandywine, German Johnson, Grape, Golden Jubilee, Mortgage Lifter, Mr. Stripey, Pink Ponderosa, Roma, Sweet 100, and Sungold

Pepper Plants in stock: Cubanelle, Sweet Banana, Big Bertha, Keystone Giant, Bell Boy, Orange Glaze, Golden Summer, Red Beauty, Hungarian Wax, Habanero, Cayenne Longslim, and Jalapeno

There is also rhubarb, cabbage (Red, Late Flat Dutch, Stonehead, Golden Acre, and Early Flat Dutch), squash (Yellow Straight Neck and Yellow Crookneck), zucchini (Dark Green), cucumbers (Straight 8, Burpless, Bush Crop, Homemade Pickles, lettuce (Great Lake), celery, eggplant, brussel sprouts (Jade Cross), broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, and strawberries (All Star Junebearing and Quinault Everbearing).

Don’t forget….we are taking orders for Anderson tomato plants. It’s a delicious, big, pinkish-red tomato. You don’t want to miss out!

I want to give a big shout out to the newly-retired Randy Richards and our boys, Cam and Seth, for helping Jim get the greenhouse ready to house our plants for the season! When you get plenty of help to pitch in, it sure does go fast. Thanks a bunch! And guys….what do you think about picking up a paint brush?? Hint! Hint!

The porch area is set up for you to enjoy your lunch outside if you would like. We love it when you come and sit for a bit!

We are getting in a shipment of perennials on Monday (April 17th)! Here’s what you will be able to find…..Yarrow, Ajuga, Bluestars, Astilbe, Bellflowers, Coreopsis, Ice Plants, Coneflowers, Blanket flowers, Day Lilies, Lavender, Loosestrifes, Catnip, Beardtongues, Phlox, Salvia, Sedum, Lamb’s Ear, Veronica, and Asiatic Lilies. There are too many varieties of each one to name here, but once they come, I will do lots of pictures. Herbs will be in this bunch as well!

Jim has been working on updating the sign area with some block. When he was taking out the railroad ties this week, he dropped one on his toe! If you see him hobbling a little bit, that’s why. It’s the deepest shade of purple I’ve ever seen! Ouch.

Here is what is happening inside…..

Our hours are later! Monday through Friday 9-6:30, Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 11-5. See ya then!

The hand-dipped ice cream is starting to catch on! For now, you can get a cup, a cake cone, or a sugar cone. We have nine flavors: Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberry, Buckeye Classic (it’s down underneath, so you will have to ask for it), Moose Tracks, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cherry Nut, and Cookies and Cream.

I’ve started to make some cemetery vases since Memorial Day is coming up pretty soon. These will be in the store this week! I know a lot of us make sure to put something new at the graves of our loved ones every so often. This will stay a year round thing at Huck’s, and if you have a color combination for me to make you, I will gladly do that! I’m going to be graduating to cemetery saddles soon!

Our canned goods section is stocked up and ready for purchase. Our prices are comparable to all the other grocery stores around, and the name Walnut Creek or Amish Wedding guarantees that the quality is the highest you can find around!

Did you know that Huck’s can make custom made cakes and cupcakes? Along with our delicious breads, cookies, and other goodies, we can make you any cake or cupcake for any occasion!

Look very soon for some made from scratch Raspberry Filled Cookies again. You have asked, and we listened!

Have you ever thought of having a get together at Huck’s with your cousins, sisters, girlfriends, church group, or workmates with a craft class, light refreshments, and an evening of fun and fellowship? Especially now, when the weather is warm and we can be outside, we would like to have you get a group together, and we can do the rest!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax at 740-373-0024.

Newsletter #29: April 8-14

Happy Easter weekend to you all! I am looking forward to a great holiday weekend! We plan on coloring Easter eggs, hunting eggs, cooking, and relaxing. Most importantly, we are going to be celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus! AMEN to that!

We have been on Spring Break this week and have enjoyed every minute of it! We got to spend a couple of days over at Hocking Hills for Jim’s birthday. That’s a great place to go, and it is nice that it’s not that far away! Thanks to all of you who sent well wishes to Jim on his birthday. He said how nice that was!

Here’s the weekly update for the outside……

It’s finally time!!! The first delivery of plants and flowers will start this week! Ferns, hanging baskets, strawberry and rhubarb plants, vegetable plants, Black eyed Susans with trellis, and combination flower baskets! If you get a chance, stop in later this week to add some early color to your outside.

Since I have had a little extra time this week, I have been reading more about heirloom tomatoes! In fact, I think I have found myself a new gardening hobby! Heirloom tomatoes cross pollinate naturally from bees. Since they are mostly regional, they are usually pest resistant and have developed immunity to many diseases over time. They also have a wide variety of shapes and colors.

I have another neat story about an Ohio heirloom tomato called Aunt Lou’s Underground Railroad. These tomato seeds crossed over the Ohio River at Ripley, Ohio by an unnamed slave fleeing to the North from Kentucky. He gave some seeds to an older woman named Lou who gave them to her great nephew. As one gardener on the website tomatoville.com said, “If this man thought this tomato was special enough to bring with him on his journey to freedom, then it is special enough to be in my garden.” This is a pinkish-red, juicy tomato. I am going to grow some this year, and hopefully will get enough seeds to start some plants for all of us for next year!

Just a reminder that we are now taking orders for the Anderson tomato plants again this year! I am trying to find the history of this heirloom tomato, but I’m having some trouble. I have read it’s from Pennsylvania, and I have heard it was from West Virginia. If you know its history, please call or message Huck’s, so we share this information with our readers and customers.

We still have some white and red onion sets left. Price is $1.79 per pound.

Kennebec potato seeds are available as well!

Earthbrew Vermincompost Tea is on the shelf ready for fertilizing your veggie plants and flowers!

Here is our inside update for the week to come…..

We will be closed on Easter Sunday!

NEW HOURS start on Monday! Our hours will be extended until 6:30 p.m. through the week and until 5:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

Stop in for your last minute Easter basket goodies or items for your Easter celebration!

We are excited to announce that Velvet hand-dipped ice cream is back after a few years at Huck’s! We have nine delicious flavors which include: Original Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberry, Moose Tracks, Buckeye Classic, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cherry Nut, Cookies and Cream, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. We have cups and cones now, and we are looking for containers to make some hand pressed pints as well. Prices start at $2.79! Makes me think summer is coming!

The owners of Duck Creek Candle Company have been busy making potpourri! They have stocked the candle cupboard at Huck’s with large sizes of Country Apple and small sizes in a variety of scents. When you are doing your spring cleaning, there’s nothing better sprucing up your decor with new potpourri!

Cornerstone Homestead has also been in to restock. There is a new product for the bearded men of Huck’s, Beard Oil! It comes in Unscented, Clover and Aloe, Tobacco and Bay, and Midnight Forest. These come highly recommended and smell great! The salves are filled up, and there are new soaps. There is one called Gardener Soap. It looks perfect for scrubbing up your hands and nails after a day in the dirt!

Vicky from Hot Chocolate Bombs and More brought in some solid chocolate bunnies for Easter. They come in sets of three in a combination of Cookies and Cream, Peanut Butter, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate. Plus, they are so cute. They look like real, tiny baby bunnies!

Audrey made 10 more bracelets in different patterns and colors! She is also going to be making more mini lip glosses ASAP. She started with 50 and now there are only 2 left. She is so happy that you all like them!

Instead of throwing away the ends and scraps of the meats and cheeses, we have decided to make up little doggie bags for your 4-legged pooches. A bag of scraps is only $1.50. Your furry BFF will enjoy a treat bag from Huck’s every once in a while!

Have you seen our freshly baked blueberry muffins? They are big and full of blueberries. They are perfect for breakfast or a snack. Try it with a pint of Florence Creamery’s flavored milks.

We are now selling delicious egg salad! I think some people are put off by the name, but if you like deviled eggs, you will think this egg salad is tasty!

Two new snack options are packaged up and ready to go! Peanut Butter Crunch is similar to the always popular Puppy Chow. It is rice biscuit cereal squares covered with a peanut flavored coating, milk chocolate and powdered sugar. The Honey Island Mix includes: Honey roasted peanuts, honey roasted sesame sticks, banana chips, dried pineapple, dried papaya, roasted salted cashew pieces. Yum!

We have the most delicious salsas….Pineapple, Mild, Spicy, Peach, etc., but have you ever tried the Walnut Creek tortilla chips? They come in white corn and yellow corn. My favorite thing about them is they are the perfect bite size. Hopefully, you will try a bag the next time you stock up on some salsa!

Customer Suggestion: The Amish Wedding Cinnamon Peach Syrup and Vanilla Peaches are delicious on top of pancakes. That sounds like a winning combination! Thanks for the recommendation!

Newsletter #28: April 1-6

Happy Saturday to you all! First of all, I can’t believe I’m writing my 28th newsletter! Every week I wonder if I will have enough to write about, and I always do! That’s one of the things we love about Huck’s…..there’s never a dull moment with different holidays and seasons. It really is the perfect place for us!

How was your week? We have had a great week, except for that wind last weekend!! I am sure some of you lost your power. We were out for 48 hours. Sydney really enjoyed herself! When I picked her up from school on Monday and told her that we had electric again, she said, “Awww, I was having so much fun.” Lol. She must have thought she was Laura Ingalls.

In all seriousness, it makes for a very stressful time when the power is out. Everyone has to make sure loved ones are okay and clean up tree limbs and shingles. Some of you had much more damage than that to contend with. They are saying there could be gusts of 50-60 mph winds today, so let’s be praying that all will be well this weekend!

Last night we enjoyed ourselves at our Round Sign and Bow Making Class! I have added pictures of what everyone made for you to see! It’s amazing how unique they all are even when everyone was doing the same project! Also, scroll down to the EVENTS section of the newsletter to see the details for the Easter Cabbage Flower Arrangement. This would make the perfect addition to your Easter dinner table! We are making these next Friday evening and would love to have you come!

Here is our weekly update for outside!

Our first shipment of plants will be coming the week of April 11th! I am so looking forward to this!

Come get some ramps this weekend and try them in one of your special dishes!

Many of you have been asking about an old, heirloom tomato plant called an Anderson tomato plant. Jay Huck has some Anderson tomato seeds and is going to be growing some for us to sell at Huck’s! We will hopefully have 20 flats available, so you may want to call to make sure that you are on the list to get some! For those of you who are unfamiliar with Anderson tomato plants, they are indeterminate and grow a juicy, big, pink tomato. I actually have never seen one before, so I’m excited to try a couple of these plants in my garden this year!

Heirloom seeds are different than regular seeds. Heirloom seeds are seeds that have been around for at least 50 years without human intervention. Typically, they are regional and have been passed down for generations through families and communities. Most of you have heard about a Mortgage Lifter tomato. This popular heirloom tomato has a really neat story. It was developed in the 1930’s in Logan, WV by a radiator repairman named Mr. Byles. He crossed 4 of the largest tomatoes he could find and created this new, hardy tomato. Apparently, people drove 200 miles to buy his tomato plants for $1 each. Mr. Byles was able to pay off his $6,000 mortgage with the sales of his tomato plants in six years. That’s how it got’s its name “Mortgage Lifter”. A Mortgage Lifter tomato has a pretty pinkish-red flesh and is one of the best tomatoes for a summer BLT! You can read about all types of heirloom tomato plants at ohioheirloomseeds.com

We have gotten in some big jars of Vermicompost Tea by Earthbrew. You mix 1 cup with a gallon of water and it will fertilize your plants while keeping diseases and pests at bay!

New things are also happening on the inside……

This is the last week to get some Easter chocolates and goodies for your Easter baskets!

There are also lots of baked goods that would compliment your Easter dinner! We are now taking orders for our freshly baked rolls, pies, cookies, carrot cakes, bunny cakes, etc. Please have your orders for carrot cakes or bunny cakes in by Wednesday, so our bakers can prepare!

We will be CLOSED on Easter Sunday! I am so thankful for the cross and all that it means! The Lord is so very good!

NEW HOURS!! Now that winter is over, we will be extending our hours a little bit! Starting Monday, April 10th we will stay open until 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays we will stay open until 5:00 p.m.

One of Jim’s favorite things that he sampled at the Walnut Creek Food Show was the Walnut Creek Pastrami. We ordered some for the deli, and it came in last week. He says it is delicious!

You still have a couple of weeks to get your potato seeds and onion sets planted for a fall harvest. We have your choice of red, white, or yellow onion sets for just $1.79 per pound. Kennebec potato seeds are just $1.59 per pound. If you don’t want to plant in the ground, try one of the potato growing bags for an easy no digging option.

The Yoder’s Good Health Recipe Tonic is selling so well, that we thought we would add the Yoder’s Elderberry Syrup to go along with it. According to the website, “Organic Elderberries extracted in glycerin at low heat to retain the potency and benefits of the Elderberries. Raw honey and fruit juice are added in for a tasty, healthy, treat the whole family will enjoy. Suggested use: Take 1-2 spoonfuls a day.” It’s supposed to strengthen our immune systems, so we can fight off any bugs that come our way!

Have you tried the Amish wedding Old Fashioned Applesauce or the Old Fashioned Cinnamon Applesauce. They are both delicious for an easy side dish for supper or as a snack. You can really taste the difference compared to the applesauce you buy off the shelf at the grocery store. I love both of them equally!

We have added a couple of more items to the snack area. You can now pick up a bag of Key Lime Covered Pretzels, Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzels, and /or Mini Yogurt Covered Pretzels. Yum!

Velvet Ice cream is going to be coming back to Huck’s later this week! Here are the hand dipped flavors you will be able to get: Original Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookies and Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cherry Nut, Buckeye Classic, and Moose Tracks. You will be able to get cups or cones. I’ll give more details next week once it comes in!

We can take your business delivery orders starting on Monday, April 10th! We had to push it out one more week, but we are looking forward to offering this service to our wonderful customers!

I’ve learned how to tag the wonderful small businesses that are a part of Huck’s! If you get a chance, click on their Facebook pages and follow them! They would be very appreciative!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax.

Newsletter #27: Mar. 25-31

Happy Spring, everybody! Doesn’t it seem brighter out? I love the bright green of the new Spring grass that is starting to come….I think it’s the prettiest color of green of them all! I also love how it’s staying lighter later in the evenings!

Well, starting tomorrow, the Goeller household will officially have THREE teenagers! (Pray for Jim and me! Ha!) Our third kiddo, Audrey, is turning 13. Happy Birthday, Audrey! Your mother and dad love you very much!

Most of the Tiger spring sports teams are starting their seasons. Track starts today and baseball and softball start on Monday. Crew starts next Saturday, and boys tennis starts on Tuesday . If you get a chance to come out sometime and cheer on these athletes at one of their games, meets or matches, I know they would love it! Go Tigers!

Here is what’s new outside…..

We are still preparing for the best time of the year for a farmer’s market! We have made our second order that will be full of ferns, hanging baskets, vegetable plants, strawberry plants, rhubarb plants, already potted flower pots, etc. Our growers produce the highest of quality, so we hope you will stop by and take a look at all the nice things once they start arriving the third week of April!

Once the weather warms up a bit, we are going to get the painting done outside.

We have added white onion sets to the market this week! They are $1.79 per pound. So, if you are wanting to plant onions, you could choose from red, white, yellow, or a mix of all three! If you don’t want to plant them in the ground, our potato bags would be perfect for planting onions! One thing I learned about planting onions is that they do not have to be in rows or as precisely planted as other vegetables. You can plant quite a few from a square that is several feet wide.

There are still plenty of Kennebec seed potatoes to plant.

Ferns are a wonderful option for a shady porch or an area that gets spotty or partial sun! We will have the traditional Boston Ferns as well as Macho Ferns, and Fluffy Ruffle Ferns! You can’t go wrong with the tried and true Boston Fern, but if you want something a little different, consider the Macho Fern which has great big fronds. The Fluffy Ruffle is described as having dense, fluffy fronds. It’s smaller and is absolutely adorable! Ferns are also a great option because there is no pruning, and they don’t need constant watering! Probably my favorite thing about ferns is that I can buy them in April or May, and they will last until well after the first frost in the fall! Last year, I bought Macho Ferns for the first time, and I loved them!

Here is a little bit more information about these refreshingly green plants! Ferns are over 300 million years old, and they provided food to the dinosaurs that were herbivores or omnivores. They purify the air by filtering out toxins. Ferns are also disease resistant, and pests do not bother them. Ferns like humid conditions, so they are great for the Mid Ohio Valley summer weather! Finally, there are more than 10,000 different types of ferns! I can’t wait to get them up on my porch!

Here’s our weekly update for inside!

There are only two weeks left until Easter! Stop in for some speckled or spiced jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, Peeps (You either love them or you hate them!) yogurt or chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered almonds, Dutch Delights, etc.

We can put together Easter baskets for you….in fact we would love to do that!

And don’t forget to order your from scratch bunny cake or carrot cake! See pictures down below!

Ramps are here! They are $7.99 lb. One customer said they are delicious in eggs, and she puts them in her fried potatoes. You can also eat them raw and slice them up like scallions and add them to your salads or as a garnish. They may be a little pungent for a first date or a business luncheon, but other than that, I say go for it! Lol!

Have you tried our bags of Bauman Orchard apples. They are grown in Ohio. We can get Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious. The Granny Smith ones are my favorite!

As always there are strudels, pies, fry pies, pepperoni rolls, brownies, breads, cinnamon rolls, and rolls in our bakery that are fresh baked every day. We are also adding Rye bread this week! Stop in and try some!

There’s only one more week to get some of our homemade soups before they are gone for the season! Stop in and get one last cup or bowl of your favorite!

Jim picked up the Amish made fry pies from Whispering Pines Bakery this week. Come get your favorite! They are all delish!

The requested French Onion Soup Base has come in!

Corned Beef is back in stock! We weren’t sure how everyone would like it, so this is now a staple at Huck’s!

Duffy’s Designs is going to be bringing in some adorable Easter t-shirts this week just in time for the holiday. She is also going to drop off tumblers.

We have a few more items from Forever Caroline. The little love notes are adorable, and the right size for a sweet hello or goodbye.

Duck Creek Candle Company is highlighting Honey Cornbread for its scent of the week. They describe it as “a delicious blend of warm, fresh cornbread baking in your grandma’s oven with a hint of honey drizzled over it.” Yum!

Florence Creamery is your chance to get local cream topped milk. You can definitely taste the freshness!

As always, you can’t go wrong with ground beef or ground sausage from Zimmerview’s Meats and Market. If you haven’t tried it, you won’t be sorry!

Just a reminder that we have cards, gift wrap, and bows! Gift wrap is $2.99 and the bows are $0.99.

Newsletter #26: Mar. 18-24

Happy weekend to you all! Did you all do anything to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Sydney didn’t catch a Leprechaun, but they left a little mess of Lucky Charms and gold chocolates at the Goeller house! I also spent the evening at the Spring Fling at the high school. This dance was hosted by the Interact Club and the Key Club, and the kids wanted to give all proceeds from the dance tickets to the Eve Shelter here in town. It was a great success! It’s great to see the next generation wanting to give back, and they had fun at the same time!

Just in case you were wondering…..our last name is spelled Goeller but is pronounced Geller!

We have added a real quick crafting class being added on Friday, April 6th! Scroll alllllllll the way down at the bottom for details! There are still a few spots left for the class next Friday (March 31st) too!

I also want to give a shout out to our oldest son, Cameron! He is turning 17 on Tuesday. Oh, how times flies! Don’t you just love your kids??!! Love ya SO much, Cam!

Here’s is our weekly update for everything outside!

There is still quite a bit of painting to do outside, but this week it has been too cold for Jim to get any of that done! Maybe there will be a chance to do some more later in the week, but this weekend is going to be COLD!

Just a reminder that Kennebec potato seeds are in as well as onion sets!

Ramps are coming on Tuesday! I have never tried a ramp before, and maybe some of you haven’t either……They are a wild onion and are also called wild leeks. They taste like a mixture of garlic and onion. Did you know there is a festival in Richwood, WV dedicated to ramps? It’s called the Feast of the Ramson. It’s on Saturday, April 22nd this year from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Here’s a website with all the information for some of you who want a fun weekend getaway! (https://www.richwoodchamberofcommerce.org/feast-of-the-ramson)

I was able to get some colorful potato bags in! They are heavy duty fabric 10 gallon bags with perfect drainage. It also has a flap on the side for easy harvesting. These are $9.99 a piece and will be put out today (Saturday) by the seed potatoes!

Potatoes are one of the best producing seeds that you can plant. One pound planted yields 10 pounds of potatoes! That’s a great return! The best way is to make sure your potato has 3 eyes on it. Cut your potato seed with a sharp knife. Plant them in a sunny area and water when necessary. You know your potatoes are ready because the potato vines above ground will completely die. That tells you that your potatoes are fully grown. Potatoes can last a long time in a cool, dark cellar or basement.

We are getting so excited for all of the flowers and vegetables plants that will be here before we know it! There will be plenty of hanging baskets, perennials, annuals, vegetable plants, succulents, etc. I can’t wait!

Here’s our update for this week on inside……

Take advantage of the Easter goodies while there is still time the next couple of weeks! We are still taking orders for Easter baskets!

We will be closed for Easter on Sunday, April 9th to observe one of the most meaningful holidays of the year!

Would you like a Bunny Cake or Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting for Easter weekend or Easter Sunday? We are now taking orders! The carrot cake will be a double layer 8 inch round cake with cream cheese frosting with (or without) walnuts. The Bunny Cake is your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry cake with vanilla frosting and coconut (or not). Check out the pictures below for examples!

BUSINESS LUNCH DELIVERIES will start on Monday, April 3rd! We are excited to offer this service to the businesses, schools and plants in our town. We know how short your lunch breaks are and how hard it can be to fight traffic and get everyone’s lunch back to them, so let us take care of that part for you!

Because of the weather, Jim has been able to start painting on the inside! We chose Cozy White for the walls and Garden Trellis for the trim. It’s a pretty sage green. He started on the back wall and he’s hoping to have all the painting done inside and out in the next few weeks! Check it out the next time you are in! P.S. All your compliments keep him motivated! Ha! Wink! Wink!

Jim and I were able to have a date day trip to the Walnut Creek Food Show last week. We had fun! We got to see all the new products and sample some things. There are some great new items that we will be able to offer you all soon!

Well, the corned beef has been a hit! We have heard great reviews! It’s great when we get something new that then can become a regular item! If you haven’t tried it, we hope you will soon!

There are small single size fresh bags of sauerkraut available if you prefer that over a jar.

Our bakery is now baking Rye bread fresh daily! This is something that you have asked for, and we are happy that we can now offer it!

The March edition of the MHS newspaper The Original is available for free at the counter. There is even a 10% lunch coupon (11-1 Monday thru Friday) for Huck’s on the back that is good until March 31st!

Soups will continue for the month, and then we will take a break until September. Take advantage of our yummy soups while you can!

There’s plenty of ground sausage and ground beef available in the freezer from Zimmerview!

Crafts are 20% off! If you have been eyeing something, now’s the time to treat yourself! Also, check out the candles, melts, and sprays from Duck Creek Candle Company! There really is a scent for everyone.

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax.

Newsletter #25: March 11-17

Hello, everybody! Hope you have had a great week! We did!

Last night, we had the most delightful evening making the Spring Door Arrangement! Everyone’s was unique, and they turned out beautifully! Please take the time to look at our pictures as we went from start to finish! As soon as I got home, I put mine on my front door. You can see that picture too! I love it! You can find the information about our next class in the events section at the bottom of the newsletter. Please don’t feel like you aren’t crafty or couldn’t make something look nice. These classes are done step by step, so everyone could do them!

There are over 220 different projects for Ohio 4-H that local youth can take when they are involved in 4-H. There are animal projects like: Dairy Beef Feeders, lambs, hogs, horses, rabbits, goats, etc. There are outdoor projects such as: Ohio Birds, Fishing, and Exploring the Outdoors. For domestic projects, you could take sewing, pets, finance, gardening, cooking, and even laundry! There are science projects about electricity, chemistry experiments, and the environment. In fact, no matter your interest, there is a project for you! Registration must be completed by April 1st. Questions? Send me a message!

Next, I’m going to talk a little bit about the Appalachian Trail. It is 2,190 miles and takes the average hiker 5-7 months to complete! The typical trek begins at the base of Springer Mountain in Georgia and goes up to Katahdin, Maine. Most hikers start in March and will be finished in September. Hikers need to walk 14-20 miles per day to stay on pace and be prepared for a cost of about $6,000. Two of the most beautiful views are Clingmans Dome in Tennessee and Dragon’s Tooth in Virginia. Even if we never get to do the entire trail, there are lots of spots along the route that I would love to see. (appalachiantrail.org)

Here’s our update for outside!

Has anyone seen the sun shining on Route 60 this week? That’s Huck’s! If you haven’t come by to take a peek yet, Jim has been hard at work painting Huck’s a cheery, butter yellow! We weren’t sure about the color, so thanks to all of you for your messages, texts, honks, and kind words of approval! You all are so wonderful! There are still three more sides of the building to do, but I’m confident in Jim to get the job done! Lol. Thanks, Jimmy!

If you are hoping to do some planting soon, check out our red and onion sets and Kennebec seed potatoes. Just think of how happy you will be at harvest time that you took the time to get these in the ground now! I bought a few potato bags to plant my potatoes in. I’ll take a picture once I have mine planted.

One sure sign that Spring is here is the arrival of dandelions. Before we mow for the first time, our front yard will have more dandelions than I’ve ever seen in one place. Usually it aggravates me, but I read an interesting article this week about how important dandelions are for the honey bees. Dandelions are one of the first flowers of the new growing season, and bees get both pollen and nectar from them. By May, there are lots of other flowers for bees to use, so dandelions aren’t as vital then, but they sure do need them during early Spring. So, I am determined to enjoy the dandelions in my yard a little more this year!

Now, let’s move onto the inside…..

Keep calling in for your Easter basket orders! We can customize them with all sorts of goodies!

St. Patty’s Day is on Friday! We will have sauerkraut to go with some corned beef so you can get some luck of the Irish! Sydney is trying to research the best Leprechaun trap design that she can, so she can catch one of those little green men!

Be on the look out for a couple of new items in our deli……single mustard eggs and single pickled eggs. Sometimes you don’t want to buy a whole jar but would just like to have one to satisfy your craving!

We are also going to start making Dirt Pudding and Golden Pudding this week. These are tasty options when you want something sweet to go with your lunch!

Our craft sale of 20% off will continue until we get some more items cleared out! I’m wanting to go craft shopping for the market over my spring break in a couple of weeks, so I’m hoping to get it cleared out to make room for new items!

A new order of tonic is on its way. We are glad that you like it as much as we do! We are going to add some Elderberry Syrup for Immune System support as well.

As promised, I tried the Sweetheart Jam. It is delicious! I ate it with a little cream cheese on a bagel. It is tart and sweet, which is one my favorite combinations. I think you will like it too!

I made a yummy chicken and rice casserole this week. I would be lying if I said all my kids love when I say we are having a casserole for dinner, but Jim and I both thought it was very good. The reason I tried this new recipe was because it called for Cream of Mushroom soup, Cream of Chicken soup, and Cream of Celery soup. I made it using the Walnut Creek brand of each of them, and these soups are very very good.

There are lots of baked goods made fresh by our wonderful bakers!

I know that you are starting to notice the new items from Forever Caroline! All of the artists are so talented and the quality of these products is excellent. There are little love notes, blank cards, note pads, etc. If you haven’t seen them yet, I hope you will look for them the next time you are in!

Cornerstone Homestead has restocked! They added some beautiful wood soap dishes in many different finishes (look at the cherry one!) and some Bath Shots in Lavender and Oatmeal, Milk and Honey, and Rose and Clay. Their products are luxurious and smell great!

Here’s some good news!!!! Egg prices have really dropped! They are down almost $2.00 a dozen from the cost a couple of weeks ago! We are also selling farm fresh eggs from Fagan Farms in Macksburg. They are nice big brown eggs. You have your choice of those along with our Amish eggs from Walnut Creek.

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax.
