Happy Veterans Day! Many schools in our area had assemblies on Thursday to honor and celebrate the many veterans in our local communities. We got to hear from three wonderful individuals at MHS: Mr. Brian Welch (Ag teacher at MHS and Army Veteran), his wife, Mrs. Amy Welch (owner of Welch’s Urgent Care in Caldwell and Army Veteran), and Mr. James Waybright (retiree and now a substitute at MHS and Air Force and Army Veteran). The tunnel at MHS between the main building and the gym/auditorium has been dedicated to Mr. Waybright and is now called The James Waybright Corridor. We are so thankful for all of the brave men and women who serve and have served in one of our mighty military branches! We appreciate your service and sacrifice, and we support and love you!

I found some interesting facts about this special day. The Department of Defense is the largest employer in the United States. Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day which celebrated the end of WWI which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Also, did you know that there is no apostrophe in Veterans Day? Approximately 75% of all veterans served during wartime and only 25% during times of peace. And finally….there are over 16 million veterans living today, so please take the time to thank a veteran and support causes that help them!

The Interact Club at MHS has decided to focus on Veterans this year for our service projects. One project that is ongoing that I would love for you all to help us with is coupon collecting. We have adopted an Air Force base this school year in Spangdahlem, Germany. Our goal is to send coupons to the families at this base twice this school year. They can use coupons that have already expired, and they can use them interchangeably. For example, if they have a coupon for Cheerios, they could use it for a different cereal if they want. Overall, I think it’s a great program, and I love to think that we can do a small gesture that can make a big difference to our military personnel and their families! If you would like to help us, please drop off coupons to Huck’s, and I’ll make sure they get added with the ones the high school collects. You can learn more at https://ocpnet.org/. Thank you!

The Goellers are celebrating two birthdays in our house this week! Sydney is turning 8 today on Veterans Day, and Seth is going to be 15 on Tuesday! They are both big blessings to both Jim and me! Happy Birthday to you both! Your mother loves you so much! (Not that they are reading my newsletters….Lol.)

Here’s our update for outside….

The pie pumpkins and gourds we have are now just 50 cents each! Come and grab a armload!

Remember that the fall is a great time to reflect on last year’s garden. What grew well, what didn’t? Do you have a new type of perennial or vegetable you would like to grow? Does a plant need thinned out or a new spot with more sun or shade? Sometimes it’s nice to just relax and think about your garden without the pressure to get something done!

Here’s what’s happening on the inside….

Order your Thanksgiving pies! Here is a list of our yummy pies: Apple, Country Cinnamon Apple, Dutch Apple, Caramel Apple Walnut, Apple Walnut, Red Raspberry, Boysenberry, Pumpkin, Blueberry, Blackberry, Cherry, Pineapple Upside Down, Peach, Strawberry Rhubarb, Pecan, Chocolate Cream, and Coconut Cream! We are now taking orders! Call us at 740-373-2484.

You can also order fresh baked rolls (individual or pan rolls) and our homemade Cranberry Relish. You can order the cranberries with walnuts or without. We could also add some celery if you want a little bit of a crunch. Either way, it’s tasty! If you are still on the fence, ask for a spoonful at the deli, and see what you think!

We have another craft night coming on Friday, December 1st. We are offering two fun crafts that night! Check out the description below!

For those of you who like the Cinnamon Imperials…..Walnut Creek has finally gotten these back in stock! I’m not sure if this will be for good or just through Valentine’s Day, but I just ordered some, and they will be here on Wednesday! Yay!

Don’t forget about our other items in our bakery! These are baked fresh each and every morning. There are cinnamon rolls, breads, all types of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc.

Our deli has any type of meat or cheese you would like! It’s almost time for those charcuterie boards to come out for the holidays! That’s an easy way to entertain! And with Huck’s being voted “Best Deli” by The Marietta Times Reader’s Choice Award, you know that you are getting the very best available!

Some of you have been asking for a sherbet, so Raspberry Sherbet has arrived! I haven’t tried it, but Jim said it is VERY good. That’s saying something, because Jim’s favorite his whole life has always been Old Fashioned Vanilla. Sherbet only has about 1-2% dairy where ice cream has a least 10%. It also includes citric acid which makes it nice and tart! Pucker up for some Raspberry Sherbet in a cone or cup!

Our produce area is looking good! We are still able to get many different types of apples. In fact, we just in Rome apples and a shipment of Cortland. Apples are one of the best snacks, especially when you add a little caramel dip, peanut butter, or a little piece of salty cheese! Yum!

We are also still enjoying some WV homegrown tomatoes. These tomatoes have been babied through the frosts, so take advantage of these tasty fruits while you still can!

Local Kennebec potatoes from Lowell are available in both 10 and 50 pound bags. These creamy potatoes are great for mashing, stews, baked, boiled, etc. With a 50 pound bag, you will be sure to have potatoes for the winter!

Soup’s on! Here’s our tentative weekly menu:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Chili

Tuesday: Vegetable beef, Creamy Potato

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Chicken with Wild Rice

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Sausage Tortellini

Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Clam Chowder
