Hello, everyone! How many days are there left until Christmas???? I say…Not enough! This is such a wonderful time of year, and I hope you all are enjoying it!

So, Jim and I are finally ready to announce our exciting news! We have gotten the keys to a second location for Huck’s! Sometime in January, we are going to be opening up a mini Huck’s Farm Market at 114 Putnam Street in downtown Marietta! It’s going to be a breakfast/sandwich shop with our baked goods and other items as well! We are very excited about this new opportunity, and we will share more news in the weeks to come!

This week we are going to dive into some of the more traditional Christmas foods! First up is the fruit cake! This has to be one of the most divisive foods of all time! This is known as the first energy bar, and it dates back to the Romans. In the 1700s, the colonists in America could use candied fruit from the fall harvest to make this European bread in the winter. It also has a great shelf life! The perfect fruit cake has been seasoned over the course of several months before serving. Finally, fruit cake became popular in the 1950s in America with some magazines back then calling it the perfect gift and a must at the Christmas dinner table. By the 1980s though, 75% of people said it was the worst gift you could give or receive. Ha! (pbs.org)

Next up is figgy pudding! This molded pudding is also called Christmas pudding and plum pudding. This cake-like dessert is dense and filled with nuts, dried fruits, and spices. This dates back to the medieval times and sounds to me a lot like Fruit Cake! It was originally made with 13 ingredients which signifies the 12 apostles and Christ. A holly sprig was always placed on the top to symbolize the crown of thorns. (taste of home.com)

The candy cane has been a Christmas staple for centuries. Its origin dates back to Cologne, Germany where a choir leader gave his choirboys sugar candy sticks to keep them quiet during church. He shaped them into shepherd hooks. It was first associated with Christmas when a German immigrant from Wooster, Ohio decorated his tree with them, and at the start of the 1900s, red stripes and peppermint flavoring were added to give us the traditional candy cane. There isn’t much to say about the outside of the market this time of year! I’ll start giving some gardening facts and a countdown to Spring once the new year comes!

Inside the market is a hopping place this time of year!

Hopefully, you have gotten to see Chippy, our elf at Huck’s, the past few weeks. Sydney had been asking him to come visit Snowflake at our house. He finally did one day last week, and she was thrilled!

There is a wide variety of dips available for your Christmas Eve party. They are easy to make and go perfectly with crackers, pretzels, breads, or veggies!

Some of our pottery bowls from The Potter’s Hand would be the perfect size for our dips. The glazed pottery items are dishwasher safe and are perfectly fine to use for food or eating! Another reason to buy these new one of a kind items!

Have you seen our adorable Christmas shirts from Pretty Prints and Tees and Duffy’s Designs? These custom made shirts are made from the softest material and have the cutest designs around! We have all sorts of sizes!

We have gotten a restock from Haney’s Kettle Corn and Duck Creek Candle Co. They have a great variety of flavors and scents! Two cozy ways to enjoy the holiday season!

Cornerstone Homestead has a great variety of scents of soaps and bath shots. They have salves and beard oils. All of these are organically made and are hypoallergenic, so these are a win-win!

Don’t forget to check out all of the Christmas ornaments we have to choose from! There are wooden ones, stenciled ones, bulbs, ceramic ones, etc. There really is one for everyone’s Christmas decorating style!

To stay up with the old-time tradition, we all better pick up one of the Claxton Old Fashioned Fruit Cake. Just seeing a log of this takes me back to being a kid and seeing it on my grandparents’ tables at Christmas. And you know what….it actually tastes pretty good now that I’m in my 40’s. Lol.

It’s cutting it close for a gift basket to be shipped, but you can still order one to pick up!

The Peppermint ice cream from Velvet is a hit!
