Newsletter #57: Nov. 3-10

It’s the first full week of November, and it’s time to turn back your clocks tonight! I enjoy getting more light in the morning, but I do not look forward to the dark evenings. Here is an interesting fact about daylight saving time….Benjamin Franklin actually came up with the idea about a century before it was adopted by any country. He thought it would save money because it would conserve candle wax. He also thought the dark mornings would make people stay in bed and be lazy (mentalfloss.com).

We have two craft nights that just got scheduled! We will be doing a Fall craft/Thanksgiving centerpiece craft night (adorable!) on Friday, November 10th, and TWO delightful Christmas crafts in one night on Friday, December 1st! I’ll be posting the details down below, so be sure to check that out!

Don’t forget to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, November 7th! Cam got trained to work the polls last week for Youth at the Booth, so I know he’s excited to get to do that! We are so fortunate to live in a country where our votes do count, and we can vote however we want! God Bless America!

Here’s our update for outside!

First of all, all of us at Huck’s would like to say thank you for a great Spring, Summer, and Fall! We love when the outside is full of color and beautiful blooms! We hope to keep growing the greenhouse area of Huck’s every year!

Newsletter #56: Oct. 28-Nov. 3

Another month is ready to end! How is that possible? We better enjoy one last warm weekend, because starting on Monday, it looks like we won’t see temps in the 70’s for quite a while! The old wive’s tale about the willy worms I saw last year wasn’t correct, but I have seen some all black ones around my house! I also saw a Facebook post on the Harmar Village page about the height of wasp’s nests. The higher the wasp’s nest means the higher the snow. The old saying goes “See how high the hornet’s nest, ‘twill tell how high the snow will rest.” According to people who shared their pictures, there were some very high wasp nests. We shall see!

I have to give a quick shout out to our Fall MHS sports teams! The Girls Tennis team sent Olivia Emery (my sweet, little cousin!) and Jenna Jackson to States at Wooster College, Cross Country has made it to regionals, Saylor Wharff made it to States in Girls Golf, Volleyball is in the Districts Semifinal today, Girls Soccer has won Districts, Boys Soccer made it to the District Semifinals, Football made it to the playoffs for the 2nd time in school history, Marietta Marquettes and Cheer both did amazing at their first fall competition, and Boys Golf sent Owen Heslop and Zach Birge to the Districts as well. It’s a great time to be a Tiger!

The 7th grade teachers at MHS have a lot of fun each year on Costume Day by dressing up like the characters of the game CLUE (which is my all time favorite board game)! This was my 3rd year going as Mrs. White, the maid, although my costume looks a little more like Amelia Bedilia. Lol. We read alibis to the students, and they have to figure out “whodunit”. Kids can get prizes for figuring it out. Mr. VanReeth works hard to put this all together, so kudos to him!

Do you like a good fright? Here is a list of alleged haunted places in Marietta…..#1. The Anchorage….built in 1859 by Douglas Putnam for his wife, Eliza, and then it was turned into a nursing home…..#2 The Lafayette Hotel….they say the ghosts are friendly on the 3rd floor….#3 Mount Cemetery….you will find the great big Native American mound in the middle and more graves of Revolutionary War veterans than in any other cemetery in the United States….#4….Tiber Way….a place for patients with tuberculosis in the early 1900’s. You can even see the faded words “Chronic Diseases” at the top!….#5….Buckley Island….only accessible by boat, this island originally was used to quarantine people with deadly, infectious diseases, meaning if you went to Buckley Island, you weren’t coming back. Then, it became an amusement park for 10 years until it was destroyed in a flood in 1907…. All you have to do is Google “Haunted Marietta, Ohio” and you will find all kinds of websites if you want to read more. Believe it or not, lots of ghost hunters come to Marietta to film these haunts! Spooky!

We hope you bring your kiddos to the Kid’s Halloween Fun Day at Huck’s today (Saturday) from 2:00-5:00 p.m.! You can come anytime during the 3 hours, and you don’t have to feel like you have to stay the whole time! Here’s what we have planned:

Halloween slime (gooey!)….Ghost hunt (scary!….not really, it’s Tootsie Pop suckers made into ghosts. Ha!) ….Sugar Cookie Decorating (yummy!)….Pie Pumpkin Painting (spooky!)….Coloring Contest (creepy!) Spiderweb Craft (ghastly!)….Nail Painting (ghoulish! this one is Sydney’s idea!)….and a Dance Party (groovy!)! Plus, who doesn’t love the song “Monster Mash”?!

Here’s our outside update….

There are still some pie pumpkins, exotic pumpkins, and carving pumpkins left.

Gourds are only 75 cents. How cute would these be on your Thanksgiving table?

Thanks to all of you for a great Fall season! We sold more mums this year than last year, so that’s exciting! I hope yours are still looking great! My pineapple mum has now variegated into the prettiest pink, my white mums have also turned into pink on the edges, and my deep pink has opened up wide with sunny, yellow centers!

Look for our inflatable Tom Turkey to come out on Wednesday! Thanksgiving will be here before we know it!

Here’s what is going on inside the market….

Apples and apple cider are still aplenty! We have 1/2 Peck bags of Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Fuji, and Granny Smith. You can also find those kinds plus Mutzu, Paula Red, McIntosh, and Gala. What about a big bag of each for some variety! You know what they say…..An apple day keeps the doctor away!

The Walnut Creek cider in the glass jars have been a hit! You can find Granny Smith Apple, Apple, Peach, and Cinnamon Apple.

Don’t forget about Haney’s Kettle Corn! We have Candy Bar, Jalapeño, Monster Mash, Original, and Caramel Corn. Yum!

You may want to pick up a few caramel apples or from scratch cupcakes for your Halloween parties!

We will have Yoder’s Good Health Recipe tonic on Wednesday. Glad you all are liking the benefits of the Apple Cider Vinegar plus the 20 herbs! Down the hatch it goes!

Mister Bee’s has come out with a 1951 recipe potato chip, and we have bags of it for $2.99 at Huck’s! Growing up, Mister Bee’s potato chips were always in our cupboard. When my dad was a little boy, having a bag of Mister Bee’s and a Coca-Cola was a real treat! He told himself that when he got older and made his own money, he would always keep a bag of Mister Bee’s potato chips in his house, and he stuck to that! In fact, there is still always a bag of Mister Bee’s chips at my mom’s house!

Don’t worry….even as the weather gets colder, we will still have Velvet ice cream. It’s the best!

We are ready to start serving Ice Cream Soda Floats! Come in and get one made using our Old-Fashioned Kutztown sodas. You could get Orange Cream, Root Beer, Ginger Beer, or Red Cream. I think I will try the Orange Cream first with two scoops of Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream. What a treat! Cost is $3.99 for a 20 oz. float.

The bakery has been smelling wonderfully! Our fabulous bakers are busy keeping fresh baked items on our shelves and in our sandwich shop daily! Thank you all!

We have 50 lb. bags of Kennebec potatoes waiting for a home! They are $31.99. Wouldn’t it be nice to get all stocked up for the winter?

Do you need a Christmas flag for your house or garden? We have some adorable ones! We have small sizes for your garden, and we have big ones to hang on a flag pole on your house.

Don’t forget to check out our seasonings and dips here at Huck’s! We have delicious seasonings made locally by Sage and Co. and Blue Heat! Lots of dip packets from Walnut Creek are available with flavors like Dill, Southwest, etc. We are going to be adding to this section soon for the holiday season!

Now that the weather is going to be getting cooler, we all have to contend with drier skin. We have a great remedy for this…..Cornerstone Homestead goat milk soaps. These soaps add moisture to your skin without irritating it. They can also help treat acne, and I’ve even read they can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! Not that any of us would need it for wrinkle repair, right?

If you are needing a little gift for someone, we have the perfect something. Whether it be a notepad or cards from Forever Caroline, a candle from Duck Creek Candle Co., a gift card, or a craft, there are lots of things to choose from.

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, fruit, cookie, and sandwich trays. These are perfect for meetings, parties, get togethers, reunions, funerals, etc. You can call us at 740-374-2484, message us on Facebook, email us at hucksfarmmarket@gmail.com, or send us a fax at 740-373-0024.

Newsletter #55: October 21-27

How are you all doing? Don’t you love fall? The fall foliage map was right! The leaves are looking so pretty right now!

Last night was the big rivalry game between Marietta and Warren! Many people braved the chilly temps and the off and on drizzle to cheer on either the Tigers or the Warriors at Don Drumm Stadium! What a great game! It was tied 14-14 at halftime, and After a hard fought battle on the gridiron, the Tigers are on top this year with a score of 28-24! Great game!

The Zimmerview Beef and Freezer raffle sponsored by the Marietta Tigers Athletic Boosters was drawn last night at halftime. And the winner is……….Peter Tome! Congratulations! You will get a phone call today to get all the details of getting your meat and freezer! Thanks everyone for supporting this fundraiser!

There are a couple of fun trunk or treat events to tell you about for tomorrow evening (October 22nd). The Marietta First Church of the Nazarene is sponsoring a trunk or treat from 6-8 pm. There will be balloon animals, kettle corn popcorn, a fire, and of course of candy! Up the hill you can trunk or treat with a Tiger at Marietta High School! Some of the Tiger sports teams are decorating trunks and passing out candy!

Audrey joined 87 of her 8th grade classmates for an amazing trip to Gettysburg, PA the last few days! She had the best time and learned a lot! Thank you to all the teachers and the administration for making this trip so special for those kids. I know that’s a lot of work to get a trip like that planned! Those are great memories to make with your classmates!

Here’s our update for outside the market….

Jim’s still blowing leaves. Ha!

We got a new shipment of pumpkins! You should see the size of some of these beauties! I took some pictures, but it’s hard to see the size of them. Cam, Izzy, and Syd carved a few of them at home, and Jim’s going to carve some pumpkins for outside at Huck’s!

Here’s the history behind the Jack-o-lantern! It comes from an old Irish myth about a man named Jack. He tricked the devil and was condemned to walk the earth at night with a turnip lantern. Irish families originally carved turnips and placed them on their windowsills to prevent “Jack of the lantern” and other creepy ghouls from going into their homes at night. Irish immigrants in America switched from turnips to pumpkins, and that’s how this age old tradition of carving Jack-o-lanterns began! (howstuffworks.com)

If you are planning a bonfire, grab a few bales of straw to sit on! That sounds like a fun night doesn’t it?!

Here are the prices for outside:

XXL pumpkins $7.99

Gourds $0.50-$1.49

Pie Pumpkins $1.99

Straw bales $9.99

Halloween Fun Day for Kids on Saturday, October 27th from 2:00-5:00 p.m.! Looking for something fun to do on Trick-or-Treat during the afternoon? Huck’s will be hosting some fun activities on the side porch! Lots of times the kids are so excited for trick-or-treat, and they get bored in the afternoon waiting…..and parents don’t know what to do with them. We will have lots of different stations and activities for the kids to do. Here’s our plan so far: friendship bracelets, coloring contest, mini pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, Halloween slime, a couple of fun games, and a Halloween craft. Activities will be for kids Preschool-6th grade. Also, you don’t have to stay the whole time! It’s also free!

Here’s what’s happening inside at the market……

New crafts have arrived! Yay!! There are things for fall and things for Christmas! It’s funny how trends come and go! Last year at Christmas it was all about the old pick up trucks, Buffalo checks, and bows. This year the trend has shifted to vintage Santas and a woodland theme. I saw lots of reindeer, wooden snowflakes, and it was much more simplistic. I was able to find some beautiful things! I bought more than we could fit, so look for some new things to keep coming out!

I love the Smith Redware Pottery! It’s made in Ohio. This type of pottery is all handmade, and it’s hard to find! I was able to get some small little plates, plenty of ornaments , and one large holly berry plate. These are great collector items, and they are heirlooms! Check out their website. What a talented couple! smithredware.com

Yummy caramel apples are here as long as we’ve got delicious, local Ohio apples. With nuts seems to be your all’s favorite, but we always make some plain ones as well!

From scratch pumpkin cookies with cream cheese frosting have been a hit!

We always have some from scratch cupcakes from Beth Huck! This week we’ve had Carrot Cake and Chocolate Wedding Cake. Divine! You know……she makes custom made cakes as well!

Check out the beautiful Amish sweet peppers! There are also red, yellow, and green bell peppers too! They are only $1.49 lb. I’m thinking I’ll make Seth’s favorite this week….stuffed peppers!

Here’s next week’s soup schedule!

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Soup Beans with Ham
Tuesday: Creamy Potato, White Chicken Chili
Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Cream of Mushroom
Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup
Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Creamy Potato with Ham

We have been giving out cider samples. Be sure to try a little swig! There are individual pints of cider in the cooler which would be perfect if you don’t want a gallon. They are only $2.49.

Forever Caroline has brought in some adorable tote bags. These are the perfect size for carrying all sorts of things! Check them out!

We are beginning to get calls for Christmas gift and fruit baskets. We will start to post a flyer next week. We can custom make these to fit your budget and needs. We work with businesses as well as individuals! We can deliver or ship USPS to anywhere in the US.

If you haven’t tried Florence Creamery’s milk yet, you are in for a real treat. Once you try it, you will be hooked on the richness and freshness of this great product! We are so blessed to have such a high end quality milk in our area! Yum yum!

Huck’s carries 5 different types of dried beans. You can find black, pinto, green split, great northern, and one more that I can’t remember! It’s definitely time for soup beans, so pick up your choice!

Hi, everyone! I hope you have been enjoying the beautiful fall weather! I was checking the Fall Foliage Map for 2023, and it looks like the next week or two is going to be the peak time for the beautiful leaves. Which color is your favorite? I love maples! My two favorites are the bright orange and the red.

Last Thursday was Farmer Appreciation Day! Each American farm produces enough food to feed 165 people. There were 7 million farms in the U.S. in 1935 and now there are 2.2 million. Commercial egg farmers produce 165 billion eggs per year! It takes 150 yards of wool to make enough stuffing for a baseball. The average dairy cow produces over 6 gallons of milk a day which calculates to 46,000 glasses of milk per year! (stacker.com) Thank you, farmers! We love and appreciate you all!

Here’s the update for outside!

Although there aren’t many mums, we will continue to keep stocked up on pumpkins! Look for another shipment to come mid week!

We finally got some bales of straw! They are $9.99 each!

Activities will be for kids Preschool-6th grade. Also, you don’t have to stay the whole time!

Here’s our weekly update inside the market….

Soup’s on! Here’s our weekly menu:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Chili

Tuesday: Vegetable beef, Creamy Potato

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Chicken with Wild Rice

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Sausage Tortellini

Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Clam Chowder

I’m leaving first thing this morning to get us some adorable crafts and decorations for the Christmas season. This is one of my favorite things to do for Huck’s! I get a chance to just look at pretty things and relax. Believe it or not, there are only 73 days until Christmas, and I noticed that some stores already have out Christmas things! Sydney got a couple of Christmas Toy magazines in the mail this week, and she’s already been writing letters to our elf on a shelf to give to Santa. So, I guess even if we aren’t ready to start thinking about Christmas, it will be here before we know it! I hope you will come in and check what we have soon! Everything will be out by the start of the week!

Duck Creek Candle Co. has informed me that they will have some cozy, homey holiday scents November 1st. Until then, enjoy flavors like Pumpkin Crunch and Blueberry Crumble. They smell so good!

Sage and Co. has come and restocked their delicious line of rubs and seasonings. Stop in and pick up one or two for the next time you make meat or veggies for dinner. They have Farmer’s Favorite Veggie Seasoning, Cowboy Caviar, Garlic Herb and Cheese Popcorn Seasoning, Appalachian Fish and Seafood Seasoning, and Sweet and Smoky BBQ Rub. They really are tasty!

We are excited to announce that the flavored popcorns from Haney’s Popcorn has arrived! We have flavors like Jalapeño,

If you like spicy foods, Blue Heat has added another seasoning to Huck’s. Not only do we have Devil’s Dust, you can also get Carolina Reaper. You can use these two seasonings on just about anything you want!

Since it is going to be a great time to go take a drive to look at the fall leaves, stop in and grab a salad or sandwich and some cookies and chips and have a little picnic. Maybe you could drive out Route 26 to the covered bridge out at Rinard Mills. My paternal grandmother, Mary Rinard, grew up in Rinard Mills, and it’s a beautiful part of Monroe County!

Cornerstone Homestead has brought in some delicious new meats for our freezer. Check out their local, farm raised ground chicken, apple maple breakfast links, and chicken kielbasa. Not only are you going to get a high quality product, but you are also helping to support two local businesses!

Coming soon!! Delicious ice cream floats! We are going to use our fizzy Kutztown Old Fashioned Sodas poured over our smooth Velvet Original Vanilla ice cream! You will be able to choose from Root Beer, Orange Cream, Red Cream, Ginger Beer, and Sasparilla! Oh, my! Doesn’t that sound heavenly?!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, fruit, cookie, and sandwich trays. Happy weekend to you all! Today is a busy day for many high schoolers as they are getting ready for the Marietta High School Homecoming Dance tonight! The theme is Disco Party. I’m sure they will have a wonderful time! It takes me back to our Senior Homecoming in the Fall of 1996 when I went with my high school sweetheart, Jim. He loved dancing back then as much as he does now! Lol.

Can you believe how warm it was last week? Well, here comes the cool down! The high today is only 58 and the whole week to come will be in the mid-60s. Perfect time for soup!

Congratulations to Huck’s employee, Izzy Becker, for being crowned Marietta High School’s 2023 Homecoming Queen at Friday night’s football game! She and Cam make a great looking couple and had a wonderful evening! Check out a few pics below!

Here is our update for outside this week!

There are still a few mums and asters for you all. Have you seen the blue/purple asters? They are so pretty!

It’s Pumpkin Time! Now that it is October, there is nothing better than a big, round, orange pumpkin sitting on your front porch or stoop! Did you know that pumpkins are fruits and have about 500 seeds? And 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are sold each year in October! People love a pumpkin!

Well, our Community Plant Swap didn’t quite go the way that I was envisioning it would! Jim and I talked about some ways to improve it, and we thought we would try to do it in the Spring. I think many more people are motivated to get out and get digging in the Spring than they are this time of year. Also, I think I will ask for people to sign up what they will bring to swap, then I can advertise what we all will contribute.

Here’s our update for the inside of the market!

Have you tried our homemade caramel apples yet? They are getting rave reviews!

We’ve decided to get a little more organized on the Soup of the Day by making a schedule! We will have a two week rotation of soups with our more popular soups making an appearance every week! Here is our schedule for this coming week:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Soup Beans with Ham
Tuesday: Creamy Potato, White Chicken Chili
Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Cream of Mushroom
Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup
Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Creamy Potato with Ham

There has been a Fall restock of the Cornerstone Homestead soaps and bath items. There is Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub and Brown Sugar Vanilla Sugar Scrub! The soaps for Fall are Falling Leaves, Orange Clove, and Pumpkin Spice. We have Falling Leaves soap at home right now, and it smells so good! Plus, it’s moisturizing!

Cornerstone Homestead also provides farm raised chickens and turkeys and provides Huck’s with some yummy farm to table cuts of meat! We are now excited to share that we have ground chicken, chicken kielbasa, and Maple Apple chicken sausage coming at the beginning of the week! These yummy meats are kept in our freezer outside, so just ask one of us at the market to run outside and get you what you would like!

Would you like a locally raised turkey for your Thanksgiving dinner this year? Cornerstone Homestead has 8 turkeys that they have set aside for Huck’s customers. The cost is $4.50 lb. If this goes well, we will hopefully be able to do more next year! I will have all the details in next week’s newsletter, but I wanted to get you thinking!

We’ve also had a restock of Peck’s Farm chicken as well! Stop in and stock up on some delicious local meat! We are so blessed to have such quality local products in our area!

We have a new local business joining us at Huck’s! We are going to be selling Haney’s Kettle Corn. They are out of Caldwell, Ohio and have all sorts of different flavors of gourmet kettle corn such as Cinnamon Vanilla Crunch, Pumpkin Spice, Strawberry, Jalapeño, Caramel Apple, and Original Sweet and Salty. Their first drop off will be sometime this coming week, and we hope you will pick up a bag the next time you stop in! Welcome to Huck’s Haney’s Kettle Corn….we are happy to have your products in our market!

I met the nicest man at the market, and he said we have the best cookies. I asked him which was his favorite, and he said the Coconut Pecan but assured me that they are all good as well as the pies! Grab some next time you’re in to satisfy your sweet tooth!

We will have some more fresh cut bouquets arriving early today. Yay!

The beautiful local tomatoes are still plentiful, so you might want to put BLTs on your menu this week. Grab some thick center cut Walnut Creek bacon, lettuce, and some homemade bread, and you gave a meal everyone will love! If you’re like Jim and me, we like to eat it with some deli sliced Swiss cheese just like they serve in Amish country!

It’s not fall time without cider! We have several different options for you! We have the Walnut Creek Cider in the plastic jug, different flavored ciders in glass jugs and Aspen Mulled Cider which you can make yourself. Which is your favorite?

All the Ohio apples we have are so good! Last week, I bought a couple apples of every kind, and every day this week I had a different apple for lunch. They were all sooooo good! Don’t they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Let’s hope!

Sew Scrunchies has added some orange and black scrunchies to the spinner display near the checkout. They are orange and black, so they are perfect for Tiger fans and for Halloween!

Please help clean out the craft section! All crafts are 25% off for one final week! I’m going to be heading up next Saturday to Columbus to buy some Christmas things! I can’t wait!

Newsletter #52: Sept. 30-Oct. 5

Hello! I hope you had a great week! It’s supposed to warm back up this week! I’m glad! I’m not quite ready to put my sandals away for good!

Next week is Homecoming Week at MHS! The students are so excited for the dress up days: USA, Twin Day, Class Color Day, Country v. Country Club, and Spirit Day! There are also spirit games, rock painting contests, float building, the parade, the game, the crowning, and of course the dance! Two of our Huck’s employees were voted onto the Homecoming Court! Congratulations to Izzy Becker and Cam Goeller!

I hope all the students at MHS take advantage of this fun week! Like I tell my students…. you only get 4 times in your whole life to participate in Homecoming week. Plus, I’m sure you would agree with me when I say that high school goes so fast, so you better make the most of it while you are there!

Here’s the outside update for the week!

I love how the market looks in the fall! The mums and the pumpkins just liven it up. And with the new sunny yellow color, I think the fall colors pop even more!

It’s certainly not too late to get your fall decorations set out. We’ve got plenty of mums to choose from! There are still some sunflowers, asters, and a few Steelers and WV mums left.

You can also get a couple of corn shocks if you would like, and we just in another bin of big orange pumpkins! They look so pretty!

Here’s what’s happening on the inside of Huck’s!

Apples are so crisp and yummy! Come on in to see all our varieties. McIntosh is our newest one!

Apple cider is here! I forgot to mention it last week! This is the ever popular Walnut Creek cider that is in the plastic jug. It’s inside the drink cooler.

If you are looking for another flavor of cider or cider in a fancy glass jug, check out our other types of Walnut Creek cider! You can find Granny Smith Cider, Apple Cinnamon Cider, Peach Cider, and plain Apple Cider. What is cider? Cider uses pressed fruits and is unfiltered and unpasteurized. It also ferments over time. Aren’t you glad it’s fall time?

How about another option for cider? Aspen Mulled Apple Cider is being shipped today! Simmer some of this on your stove top and your house will smell like warm apple cider in no time. This is very popular for the holidays, so make sure to pick some up while supplies last!

Tracee Hein has dropped off some beautiful, cut flower bouquets. They are full of zinnias and celosia. These bouquets are $8.99 each. There are also big, yellow sunflowers for $2 each and cockscomb for $5. Bring some beautiful colors to your cozy, kitchen table before frosty mornings arrive!

We have some adorable Fall and Halloween tumblers made by Duffy’s Designs. These definitely get you in the mood for the month of October!

There are also 4 different designs for fall t shirts. These popular shirts come in a variety of sizes and have the nicest quality of material! These are selling for $15.99 which is a great price for a shirt like this! Thanks, Duffy!

Looking for some pumpkin goodies? We have from scratch pumpkin cookies with cream cheese frosting. Oh, my, these are wonderful! There is also pumpkin fudge from Walnut Creek. I haven’t had a chance to try these yet, but people are giving it rave reviews!

Now that it’s soup time again, you may want to try the Walnut Creek soup bases. They come in Beef, Ham, Chicken, and Vegetable. These are great ways to add extra flavor to your own hearty soups and stews that you make at home!

Some people are telling me that they are having a hard time staying away from the freshly baked cookies section at Huck’s. We sincerely apologize! Lol.

Please help clean out the craft section! You can still enjoy 25% off for two more weeks!

Newsletter #51: September 23-29

Hello! Welcome to Fall! Today is officially the first day of this wonderful season! The first day of Fall usually occurs between September 21-23, depending on the autumnal equinox. An equinox, when the Sun is directly in line with the equator which divides the day and night into equal parts, only happens twice a year….once now and once in the spring. We are having the most beautiful weather, and it looks like the week ahead will be full of some beautiful days as well!

Our 1st Annual Community Plant Swap is underway! I hope you are able to bring something to share from your garden. This swap will run through Sunday, Oct. 1st. I will have a chance to dig up some things from my gardens and my mom’s gardens today or tomorrow. Fun times!

The first edition of this year’s Marietta High School newspaper The Original has arrived! I have a stack ready for the counter at Huck’s. As always, these are free, and they are a great way to get in the know about the goings on at MHS. Plus, there’s a 20% off lunch coupon for a Huck’s sandwich. Pick one up!

Here’s our outside update for this week:

We have added some more mums this week! All the mums are just starting to bloom, so if you have been waiting until then, you are in luck! One faithful customer said the mums she got from Huck’s “are really exceptionally beautiful this year.” I agree with her 100%!

I love pumpkin season! We now have white pie pumpkins, Cinderella pumpkins (these ones are green!), yellow knobby pumpkins, jumbo orange and medium orange. We will continue to add to these in the next couple of weeks! Plus, we will have plenty of carving pumpkins.

Pretty gourds are here as well! You can find tan, orange, white and green ones as well! They have all types of textures and are all types of different shapes! If you are looking for ones to stack, we have those too!

We have Indian corn small sets $2.99 and large ones for $5.99. These are a definite must to add to corn shocks, a front door, or to set against a couple of pretty pumpkins!

We have some fun things to tell you about this week inside!

The homemade soups have been a hit for the first week back! These are served every Monday-Friday. Call us to find out which soups are on or check out hucksmarket.com! I apologize about the soups on the website this week. I’m out of the habit of posting, but I’ve already set myself an alarm on my phone, so I won’t miss it again!

There are some gorgeous ORANGE Roma tomatoes at the market this week. They are absolutely beautiful and taste delightful. These are Amish grown.

Another Amish grown beauty to try are the Concord grapes. The Goellers had never actually had a real homegrown grape before! Wow! What a treat! Sydney thought they tasted like a blow pop sucker, Audrey, thought it tasted like a Sour Patch Kid, and Jim also said it tasted just like candy. Anyway, these are the prettiest, deep color of purple, and they are small and round, nothing like a commercially grown grape. They do have seeds, but they taste so good that we didn’t mind having to deal with them.

there are mild peppers, hot peppers, peaches, and little cherry tomatoes as well.

Amish sweet corn sale! $.29 each or 4 for $1.00. Supplies are not endless, so come and get it while you can!

Containers of freshly picked basil leaves are in a basket near the cash registers. Just imagine the smell of homemade spaghetti sauce with some fresh basil to add to it. It’s so fragrant!

Jim planted our vegetable garden at home late. We decided to plant anything that was left over at the market, so it wouldn’t go to waste. We are just now enjoying the bounty of homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers at home! We are so happy to have our Anderson tomatoes ripen enough to eat. Boy, are they delicious! Next year, I hope that you buy one Anderson tomato plant to add to your vegetable garden, if you haven’t tried it before. You won’t be disappointed with this, rustic, heirloom tomato! As we start to get some more, we will definitely bring them into hugs to share with all of you.

The sandwich stays nice and busy at lunch time! Don’t forget about us at dinner time either! It can be very convenient to take home deli meat of your choice, some cheese, and some kaisers or sandwich buns off the bakery shelf. Or….you could order ahead online of over the phone, and we can get your sandwiches all ready for you, so you can pick them up quickly and head to your next stop for the evening! We know how busy working families are, and a yummy Huck’s sandwich may be a nice change from some fast food or pizza!

It’s Apple Time! You can find Cortland, Gala, Honeycrisp, Ginger Gold, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Paula Red. More varieties will become available as the fall goes on!

We have local plums and Bartlett pears. They are so sweet and tasty!

Craft Sale—25% off!

Duck Creek Candle Co. has restocked with some wonderful fall scents! Look for small, medium, and large size candles, room sprays, and wax melts of Pumpkin Crunch, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Cranberry Apple, and Warm Apple Pie! How cozy!
