Newsletter #66: Jan. 13-19

Hello! I hope you are looking forward to a nice weekend. Last night, I spent the night at the high school for a lock in with a great group of 7th and 8th graders and teachers. It was a great night with a mystery to solve, games, basketball, dodge ball, movies, an escape room, and pizza. A fun night overall, but I’m sleepy!

It’s almost time for the Day of LOVE……Valentine’s Day! It is just about one month away! We are now taking orders for chocolate covered strawberries. They are $24.99 a dozen. You can choose to have the strawberries dipped in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate. You can also choose which kind of chocolate they are drizzled with! Yum! These would be the perfect sweet treat for your kids, grandkids, neighbors, coworkers, spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, or friend! We can take orders through February 13th!

Here’s our update for 114 Putnam Street! It’s been a busy time for Jim and me! We have been getting things ordered and moved, cleaning, making our menu, hiring employees, and getting a sign made! As of now, we are still on track for our January 22nd opening. We love our farm market so much, and this new location will be the perfect addition!

People have been asking if we will be doing lunch delivery downtown. Yes, we will!

We have also been getting quite a few inquiries wanting to know how our new puppy, Brownie, is doing. That’s so nice of you to ask! That little puppy is so fun! He is just a lovable, ball of fur. He has a chubby belly, and he is everyone’s best friend. We are enjoying him! I have a couple of pics of him down below!

Here’s our outside update…..

Now we are at 67 days until the beloved Spring!

The rose, as I’m sure you all know, is considered “The Queen of the Garden” and the most beautiful flower in the world. I would have to say that roses are my very favorite flower in a garden. They are so fragrant and Roses come in many varieties that rose specialists put into three categories: Old Garden Roses, Wild Roses, and Modern Garden Roses. Old Garden Roses have been around before 1867. These hardy roses are disease resistant, but they only bloom once a year. These are the most fragrant of roses, particularly those with the double flower bloom. Wild roses are almost usually pink. These have a single bloom with five petals. If you find a yellow wild rose, you should play the lottery, because it is extremely uncommon! Modern Garden Roses were bred after 1867. These roses bloom continuously, have a longer vase life, and have a larger bloom. These are less hardy, less fragrant, and are prone to disease. What is your favorite type of rose?

Better get ready for some bitter cold temperatures this coming week! Looks like there may be some snow dispersed throughout the week as well! I think

Here’s our inside update in our cozy farm market….

Our products from Forever Caroline are so unique and well made. They feature the artwork of 7 different Appalachian artists. I love that they capture the feel of the wonderful area in which we live. They offer notecards, notepads, fabric products like bags and aprons, love notes, recipe cards, and gift sets. If you go into Huck’s, they are in the cupboard to the left of the front door. The owner of Forever Caroline, Julie, lives right here in Marietta, and we are happy to have her at Huck’s!

Want to know what makes Duck Creek Candles unique? This is why!

We often get asked, “What makes your candles different than all the other candle choices?”……. To start, we only use 100% American Soy Wax. No blend, pure soy to give a slow, clean burning candle or melt. But that’s not all, we only use high quality, clean label fragrances and blend them by hand with the maximum amount for the strongest scent. Yep, every product is blended & poured by hand. It takes a little longer but we believe it’s worth it in the end. Also, there’s no lead or zinc in any of our wicks, just cotton weaved with a little paper. And then we let each candle & melt cure for a minimum of 14 days to maximize the scent……From the start & still to this day we just wanted to make the highest quality products that people would love and we’ve found that requires the extra steps.

New Craft Classes are being planned and will be posted soon! We are going to get 114 Putnam Street up and running first, and then we will have time to get our craft classes back on schedule!

Huck’s is proud to partner with these amazing small businesses!

Newsletter #65: Jan. 6-12

Hopefully, you are having a great start to your school year! School is back in session, and if the second half of the school year goes as quickly as the first, it will be spring before we know it!

114 Putnam Street Update: Things are coming along at our new location! Our tentative open date is Monday, January 22nd. We are working hard to make sure that date sticks! Crossing our fingers!

One thing I am excited about with the new location is our craft nights! We will be able to have them at our Putnam Street location without moving a lot of things and being crammed in! Yay! We have some wonderful ideas in the works, so stay tuned for that!

Here’s our outside update!

It’s a slow time for sure outside. But we are making all sorts of plans for Springtime! There are 74 more days until Spring. That doesn’t seem like too many. It’s been pretty mild so far this winter, but there may be some winter weather coming in the next week or so. My sister and I faithfully read Chris Bailey’s weather blog. He used to be a meteorologist out of Charleston, but he moved to Kentucky several years ago. He posts a blog daily, and they are fun to read! He includes a lot of maps and even though he is forecasting mainly for Kentucky now, he always includes Southeast Ohio and most of West Virginia as well.

The website Growing in the Garden has a wonderful article called “6 Habits of Highly Successful Gardeners.” Here is their list of things we should do everyday in our gardens during the growing season. 1. Pay attention to the watering. (Check for plants that need watered and those that are overwatered.) 2. Keep up with daily pruning, wedding, and deadheading. (Doing this daily keeps it manageable.) 3. Look for bugs that are both good and bad. (Take action before it becomes a big problem.) 4. Look for the early signs of disease (Treat accordingly.) 5. Observe new growths and blooms. (Enjoy your plants! This is the best part!) 6. Keep up with harvesting. (This will ensure a long, bountiful produce season!) They have lots of neat little tidbits under each of these habits, so be sure to check out this article!

Here’s our weekly update for inside!

Just another reminder that our winter hours have begun:

Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Saturday: 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Sunday: 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

There’s nothing better than some from scratch soups on a winter day to go with a fresh deli sub! That being said….here is our soup schedule for the upcoming week!

Monday: Chicken Noodle and Bean Soup with Ham

Tuesday: Creamy Potato, Taco Soup

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper and Minestrone

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup

Let’s take a good look at our Sandwich Shop!

Thanks for all of your support! We hope you have a New Year!

Jim and Kirsten Goeller

Newsletter #64: Dec. 30-Jan. 6

Jim and I would like to start this newsletter by thanking you for a wonderful 2023. We love and appreciate all of you, and we enjoy getting to know you as well! We also want to thank all our faithful employees for their hard work in 2023! Huck’s certainly couldn’t run without all of you!

It’s almost 2024! This year is certain to be an exciting one! We are looking forward to getting our second location up and running at 114 Putnam Street, our oldest son will be graduating and heading off to college, it’s a leap year, and there will be a presidential election. Here’s to a happy, healthy year for all of us!

Are you doing anything fun for New Year’s Eve? Do you eat some pork chops and sauerkraut for New Year’s Day? This German tradition is said to bring wealth and good luck all year! For those of you who say no way to sauerkraut….add some brown sugar and eat it over mashed potatoes, and I think you might just change your mind!

The islands of Oceania east of Australia are the first countries to ring in the new year. So, if you can’t stay up for the ball in the NYC to drop…..the New Year will begin at 5:00 a.m. Saturday (our time) in Fiji!

Santa brought a bundle of fur and energy to The Goeller house on Christmas morning. We have a new puppy! His name is Brownie after The Cleveland Brown’s old mascot, Brownie The Fighting Elf! He’s so cute! This is the first time we’ve had a dog in the house, and I think a newborn baby is much easier! Ha! Although… he’s doing a very good job. We will see how he does next week when we head back to school. Check out his picture below!

Here’s the update for outside!

Since there’s not much to report outside, I’ll start some weather and gardening info to get us in the mood for Spring. I do love snow, so I’m on the lookout for some pretty flakes to stick to the ground! My favorite part about winter weather is watching it from somewhere warm, like the couch with a warm blanket over top of me. The older I get the less I like the cold!

There is a new invasive pest that has been found in both Ohio and West Virginia. It is called the Spotted Lanternfly, and it arrived in the Northeast U.S. from Asia on a stone shipment back in 2014. This insect is very harmful to fruit trees, so orchards are rightfully concerned. It is a moth looking insect grows to the size of a quarter with a black body and gray and red wings with black spots on them. In Ohio, they have been found in the northern counties, and they are also now in the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Both states’ Department of Natural Resources say these insects need to be reported if they are seen. (agri.ohio.gov)

Here’s our weekly update for the inside of the market!

Holiday weekend hours!

New Year’s Day: CLOSED

New Winter Hours have started through March!

Monday-Friday 9-5:30

Sunday 11-4

New Item! A couple of days a week you will find some warm White Cheddar Mac n’ Cheese beside the soups. This yummy macaroni and cheese is warm and comforting during these cold winter days. Try some!

Everyone has been very responsive to our soups! Here is the schedule for soups for the upcoming work week!

Monday: New Year’s Day (closed)

Tuesday: Vegetable Beef, Creamy Potato

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, White Chicken Chili

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Sausage Tortellini

Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Tomato Basil

All of our crafts are 50% right now! It’s time to move some things out to make room for more pretty items! We have a couple of braided rugs that would be perfect for a cold floor in your kitchen or bathroom. Braided rugs are an old tradition dating back to ancient Europe, but it was particularly popular by Colonial women in early America. Women made these rugs from leftover scraps to keep the floors warm and the colors made their homes look pretty. I love old-fashioned things!

Another option for pork is the ever popular Bahama Mamas! These come from Walnut Creek and they are a German Recipe Smoked Sausage. You could nestle them into a crockpot of Walnut Creek Sauerkraut or eat them on some of our freshly baked hot dog buns! Either way would be delicious!

I’ve been reading up on the importance of gut health, and one of the tastiest ways to add probiotics and good bacteria to our digestive systems is from yogurt! We have a delicious line of whole milk yogurts from September Farm. In the past few months, we’ve added some more flavors, and they are all delicious and high quality! You can choose from Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Lemon Honey, Plain, Vanilla, and Peach. I have tried them all, and they are all good. The plain is great as a substitute for sour cream or added to a dip or smoothie. I hope you will give this tangy, health food a try if you haven’t already!

Florence Creamery Cheese Curds are in our cooler. I googled what to do with cheese curds, and I found a website “17 Easy Recipes With Cheese Curds” by insanelygoodrecipes.com! It has recipes for Air Fried Cheese Curds, Marinated Cheese Curds, and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. Yum! I’m going to get some, and try them in the Air Fryer this week for the family!

We were asked by a customer if we could carry Walnut Creek Real Mayonnaise. It’s now on the shelf with the Walnut Creek Steak Sauce, Worcestershire Sauce, Hot Sauce, Soy Sauce, Teriyaki Sauce, and Ketchup. All of our grocery items are competitively priced which is great for a high end product!

Dutch Delights have been restocked! The chocolate section got pretty much cleared out during December, so now all your favorites are plentiful!

Haney’s Kettle Corn has restocked with some yummy flavors like Christmas Crunch and Original Kettle Corn!

There is a wide variety of dips available for your New Year’s Eve party. They are easy to make and go perfectly with crackers, pretzels, breads, or veggies!

We are blessed to have the best small business partners around! Please take the time to read their names and support them as well!

Jim and Kirsten Goeller

Newsletter #63: Dec. 16-22

Hello, everyone! How many days are there left until Christmas???? I say…Not enough! This is such a wonderful time of year, and I hope you all are enjoying it!

So, Jim and I are finally ready to announce our exciting news! We have gotten the keys to a second location for Huck’s! Sometime in January, we are going to be opening up a mini Huck’s Farm Market at 114 Putnam Street in downtown Marietta! It’s going to be a breakfast/sandwich shop with our baked goods and other items as well! We are very excited about this new opportunity, and we will share more news in the weeks to come!

This week we are going to dive into some of the more traditional Christmas foods! First up is the fruit cake! This has to be one of the most divisive foods of all time! This is known as the first energy bar, and it dates back to the Romans. In the 1700s, the colonists in America could use candied fruit from the fall harvest to make this European bread in the winter. It also has a great shelf life! The perfect fruit cake has been seasoned over the course of several months before serving. Finally, fruit cake became popular in the 1950s in America with some magazines back then calling it the perfect gift and a must at the Christmas dinner table. By the 1980s though, 75% of people said it was the worst gift you could give or receive. Ha! (pbs.org)

Next up is figgy pudding! This molded pudding is also called Christmas pudding and plum pudding. This cake-like dessert is dense and filled with nuts, dried fruits, and spices. This dates back to the medieval times and sounds to me a lot like Fruit Cake! It was originally made with 13 ingredients which signifies the 12 apostles and Christ. A holly sprig was always placed on the top to symbolize the crown of thorns. (taste of home.com)

The candy cane has been a Christmas staple for centuries. Its origin dates back to Cologne, Germany where a choir leader gave his choirboys sugar candy sticks to keep them quiet during church. He shaped them into shepherd hooks. It was first associated with Christmas when a German immigrant from Wooster, Ohio decorated his tree with them, and at the start of the 1900s, red stripes and peppermint flavoring were added to give us the traditional candy cane. (candyhistory.net)

There isn’t much to say about the outside of the market this time of year! I’ll start giving some gardening facts and a countdown to Spring once the new year comes!

Inside the market is a hopping place this time of year!

HOLIDAY HOURS!

We will try to have some of our from scratch Raisin cookies as well, but if you want to be guaranteed to get some, I would call in and order some!

We are taking orders for Christmas party trays all the way up to Christmas Eve! That goes for pies and rolls as well!

Not sure what all comes on our trays? Here’s a brief description of each:

Have you seen our adorable Christmas shirts from Pretty Prints and Tees and Duffy’s Designs? These custom made shirts are made from the softest material and have the cutest designs around! We have all sorts of sizes!

We have gotten a restock from Haney’s Kettle Corn and Duck Creek Candle Co. They have a great variety of flavors and scents! Two cozy ways to enjoy the holiday season!

To stay up with the old-time tradition, we all better pick up one of the Claxton Old Fashioned Fruit Cake. Just seeing a log of this takes me back to being a kid and seeing it on my grandparents’ tables at Christmas. And you know what….it actually tastes pretty good now that I’m in my 40’s. Lol.

It’s cutting it close for a gift basket to be shipped, but you can still order one to pick up!

The Peppermint ice cream from Velvet is a hit!

Newsletter #62: Dec. 9-15

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year….!” I hope you all are getting a chance to enjoy the season among the hustle and bustle! I will admit I’m a little bit behind, and I’m trying not to let a wave of stress wash over me when I think about it! Ha! I’m sure someone else can relate! Oh well, it will all get done!

Are you one of the those people who loves to have Christmas music playing in their car the whole month of December? If so, this week is all about Christmas music!

Brenda Lee was just 13 when she sang “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” 65 years ago. Her song never made it to #1 until this week! That’s amazing!

Singing Christmas carols actually stopped a battle during WWI for the night! On Christmas Eve 1914, the British heard carols being sung and trees being put up on the German side. They sent messages to each other, and the next day the British and German soldiers exchanged presents, buried those who had died in battle, repaired their trenches, and played football. Each side sang the same carols at the same time in their own languages. The fighting began again on December 26th. (sapaindia.com)

“Jingle Bells” was originally written for Thanksgiving! And it was also the first song played in Outer Space on December 16, 1965!

“White Christmas” by Bing Crosby is the best selling song of all time with over 50 million copies sold since 1942.

Finally, the Puritans banned singing Christmas carols back in the 1600s in Great Britain, because they thought it was pagan and an inappropriate way to show their faith.

Here’s a quick shout out to one of my Spanish students who reads this newsletter every Saturday morning…..Jeremiah Loughry! Gracias para leer, Fernando! Hasta lunes! Be ready to start your mid-term exam project/presentation. Lol.

Jim and I have some big news to share with you all in the next week or so! Stay tuned to hear our exciting announcement!

On to the market!

Another shout out to Jim for making the outside of the market look cozy and inviting with the Christmas lights! I love it!

There are only a couple live wreaths left! We are glad they were so well-received!

We got a load of apples in! There is a new variety called Luda Crisp. If you like a sweet, sour, juicy, and delicious flavor, this apple is for YOU! This apple is newer. It started to be grown in 2020 and is a relative to the popular Evercrisp and Honeycrisp. It is described as being a large, red apple with a crisp flesh and a tropical fruit flavor. It is being compared to Juicy Fruit chewing gum. Jim cut one up for the employees, and he ended up eating half of it and then two more! Oh, my, let’s get some!

We are taking lots of orders for Christmas gift boxes and baskets! There are lots of options, so don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions and let us create the perfect gift! We are also going to spend some time today putting together boxes and baskets to sell on the floor and to give you an in-person visual for ideas!

We are also taking orders for our party trays. These trays are made with only the best and freshest ingredients! They are also made close to the time you need them, so they aren’t sitting around.

Don’t forget to get your order in for pies, rolls, and cookies for Christmas!

Jellies and jams are perfect this time of year for snacks and parties. We have a great selection of jams and jellies from both Walnut Creek and Amish Wedding. Which is best? We aren’t really sure. They both sell very well! At home this week, we tried the Fruit Sweetened Strawberry Jam from Walnut Creek. It is so good!

We have all sorts of spices, rubs, and dips to add some flavor to your holiday dinners and gatherings!

Newsletter #61: Dec. 2-10

Hello! Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Looks like there may be a chance of snow next week!

Have you gotten your Christmas tree up yet? We did that last Monday night! It’s one of my favorite family traditions. We always get a live tree, and we decorate it with colored lights….although this year, we had to use half colored and half white lights, because we didn’t have enough colored lights.

Christmas trees became popular in the United States after Germans came to help the British fight all the way back in the Revolutionary War. Those early Christmas trees were lit with candles! They used whatever they had for decorations….apples, figs, popcorn, cranberries, and pastries cut out into stars, hearts, and flowers.

Here are a few more facts about Christmas trees. It takes 15 years for a Christmas tree to grow to an average height. Franklin Pierce, our 14th president, had the first Christmas tree in the White House. There are over 12,000 cut-your-own Christmas tree farms in the U.S. (Yay, Caywood Christmas Tree Farm). The Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in NYC is a Norway Spruce and is between 70-100 feet high! The Balsam fir is the most fragrant of all the evergreens. In Germany, Poland, and Ukraine finding a spider or a spider web in your Christmas tree is good luck. The trending color this year for Christmas decorations is pink. And finally, white lights are more popular than colored! (google.com)

P.S. I can write comments again! Lol. I disputed the ban, and I must have won!

Here’s what’s new outside:

We still have some live wreaths! We have two different sizes. The 22″ wreaths are priced at $16.99, and they are perfect for a grave.

The 28″ live wreaths have juniper berries and pine cones and are $29.99! So pretty!

Our plan is to get our Christmas decorations outside all done this weekend!

Here’s our inside update!

Our Elves on the Shelf have returned! Sydney has been anxiously awaiting their arrival at home and at Huck’s! They finally came yesterday morning. Snowflake is our elf at home, and Chippy is our elf at Huck’s! We also have some Elf on the Shelf candies at the register. These are only 15 cents each, and we would be happy to share them with you for your elf at home!

Soups on! Here’s our schedule for the work week!

Monday: Chicken Noodle and Bean Soup with Ham

Tuesday: Creamy Potato, Taco Soup

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper and Minestrone

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup

Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Vegetable Soup

This weekend we are going to start making some gift baskets that you can purchase inside the market. These will be filled with shelf stable gourmet items from Walnut Creek. If you don’t see one you like, just ask, and we can make one just the way you want it for whatever price you want to pay!

Gift baskets can be easily shipped to a loved one who lives out of town! We can guarantee a delivery by Christmas if we get your order by December 17th!

There are lots of pretty Christmas decorations and gifts!

Jim‘s mother, Jill, has been busy quilting an Ohio State lap quilt to sell at Huck’s. It is a log cabin pattern with the squares turned in different directions. Duffy’s Designs has delivered family sets of pajamas! We have sizes for women, men, and the kids! They have the cutest black and red Buffalo check pants and shirts to go with them. If you like the movie “Christmas Vacation”, then you will recognize the sayings on the front! Hop on board with the trend of family pajamas for Christmas Eve!

We are taking orders for party trays, pies, rolls, and cookie trays. Call us at 740-373-2484! This is one less thing you have to worry about this Christmas season!

Here comes the bride….no, Jim and I are not renewing our wedding vows in front of the deli case, but you can pick up a from-scratch wedding cake cupcake in both white and chocolate! Each one is $2.49 and worth every penny!

Cinnamon imperials finally came back in stock! These are on the shelf and ready for your enjoyment!

Huck’s has some delicious mixes for dips! Your holiday party can be over the top with a homemade dip, like cucumber dill, southwest, sun-dried tomato and basil, natural garlic and herb, and vegetable. Most require nothing more than sour cream and/or cream cheese, which can both be found in our cooler! And you can pick up fresh veggies in our produce area! Easy peasy!

Don’t forget to check out the vast array of items from all of our local business partners! We love having them in Huck’s, and they all have such high quality products!

Newsletter #60: Nov. 26-Dec.1

The Christmas season has begun! It’s time for decorating, shopping, parties, church celebrations, Christmas programs, and Christmas music! Hopefully, you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready for the festivities of the holidays to begin! If you like to shop on a schedule, then….

Today is Small Business Saturday!

Next, Cyber Monday….and Giving Tuesday! Then, it goes back to regular ol’ Christmas shopping. Lol!

You know what happens at noon today?….It’s the Ohio State v. Michigan game! What a game it will be! You have the #2 Buckeyes playing the #3 Wolverines. Oh, I hope the Buckeyes can pull out the win. The Goeller household may not be able to take a third loss in a row….The all-record for this match up is 60-51-6. The team up North has won 9 more times than us! Come on, Bucks! You can do it!

The history of this rivalry has roots all the way back to The Toledo War in 1835. Michigan and Ohio were at war over the borderline between the two states, both of whom wanted the Toledo strip. There was no actual fighting, but the two states put troops in the Toledo area. After a scuffle led to a sheriff being stabbed, the two states decided to peacefully end their disagreement. Once the Woody Hayes/Bo Schembechler Era began, the rivalry between the scarlet and gray and the maize and blue ramped up even more! It is now the biggest rivalry in college football! You can read more details at https://observer.case.edu/the-origin-of-the-ohio-michigan-rivalry/ GOOOO BUCKS!

I’m wishing my mama, Ruthie Hall, a very Happy Birthday today! She’s fun, loving, and the best mom and granny! Love you, mother!

If you write a comment on the newsletter, unfortunately, I can’t answer it. I will answer you with a message. I got banned from writing comments, because “they” said that I’m not being inclusive enough. It’s because I wrote a comment back to Haney’s Kettle Corn that they have the best kettle corn. I guess you can’t write the word “best” or your comments will be banned for singling someone out as better than others. Hahaha! Sometimes I wonder, are we living in 2023 or in the Twilight Zone? Anyway, I didn’t want anyone to think we were being rude for not responding!

Here’s our update for outside!

Jim and I did a final Fall clean up outside yesterday! We got rid of all the pumpkins and corn shocks. Now, we need to do that at home!

We got in some 22″ live wreaths. They are just $16.99!

Today, we will also have some 28″ live wreaths with juniper berries and pine cones on them to dress them up! The price on these will be $29.99!

Let’s get a pretty live wreath to dress up our front doors! How welcoming we will be!

Look for our lights and Christmas inflatables to be up in the next day or two!

Here’s our inside update…..

We have some pretty 4″ red and white poinsettias priced at $3.99 each! They are an inexpensive way to add a little color to a table or mantle! Just a reminder that poinsettias are poisonous to pets. If they eat it, they can get a rash inside their mouth and an upset belly. (Poison Control)

We have a great sale going on in our craft and gift area! All fall and non seasonal items are 50% off tomorrow, and any of our Christmas items are 40% off. This includes lamps, flags, shirts, ornaments, pottery, rugs, placemats, birdhouses, signs, Santas, snowmen, and country gifts! (Exclusions apply.)

Check out our other vendors like Forever Caroline, Duck Creek Candle Co., Cornerstone Homestead for gift ideas as well!

Duck Creek Candle Co. has all of its holiday scents in large 24 oz. candles, medium 12 oz. candles, and wax melts. Here are some of the scents on our shelves: Peppermint Mocha, Chestnuts and Cream, Hansel and Gretel’s House, Yuletide, Ginger and Spice, Cozy Sweater Weather, Honey Spiced Pear, Holiday Cabin, Gingerbread, Appalachian Pine, Mulberry Lemon, Sugar Cookie, Roasted Honey Butter, and Pumpkin Pie! And as Damon always says, “Smells are Free”, so sniff until your heart’s content!

We are beginning to put together sample baskets and boxes for Christmas gifts. These are custom made and can include items such as: jellies, shelf stable smoked sausage, shelf stable cheese, gourmet crackers, Dutch Delights chocolates, Strawberry Bon Bons, fancy mustards, nuts, holiday pretzels, apples, oranges, and pears. Similar to our sandwich shop, these baskets/boxes can be made to order with you choosing what goes inside and how much you want to spend! These are shrink wrapped with a Christmas bow. We can also deliver or ship if needed! Just think of how happy your loved one, friend, neighbor, clergy, client, etc. would be getting a gift basket they could enjoy this holiday season!

Now is the time to start thinking about your holiday gatherings, work parties, and family get-togethers! Huck’s has roughly 30 different meats and 30 different cheeses in our deli to choose from for our meat and cheese trays. Walnut Creek is of the highest standard, so you can be assured that you are getting a quality product! We have two sizes of meat and cheese trays…..large $57.99 and small $37.99. Each one allows you to choose three meats and three cheeses. They also come with your choice of mustard and mayonnaise or Miracle Whip!

Cookie trays are also very popular this time of year! You can choose a couple of cookies or do a variety. We bake fresh every day Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Lemon Cooler, Ginger Molasses, Sugar, White Chocolate Macadamia, Coconut Pecan, Pumpkin, Raisin, Peanut Butter, and M & M. Yum!

Don’t forget our veggie and fruit trays! We custom make these with the freshest produce! They come with dips of your choice as well!

Our produce area will be stocked up tomorrow! We still have WV tomatoes and local Kennebec potatoes. There are many types of Ohio apples as well! I’ve been getting one or two of each kind each week! They are all delicious!

Try some Candy Cane kettle corn popcorn from Haney’s! It’s so good!

Add some flavor and some heat to your cooking with Blue Heat and Sage and Co.!

We have the best meat from two wonderful local farms! Stop in for some ground beef and sausage from Zimmerview Farm and chicken cuts and chicken sausages from Cornerstone Homestead!

One of our favorite traditions at home is to watch “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”, which originally aired on November 20, 1973, and “This Is America, Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers” which came out in 1988.

Here is a little Thanksgiving trivia for you all! Butterball has a hotline for all your turkey problems and questions! Lol. The largest turkey weighed 86 pounds. Thanksgiving Eve is the biggest pizza night of the year! And the average person only gains 1 pound on Thanksgiving, so eat all your favorites! (protocol80.com)

Rolls and pies! We are still taking orders! We will also make sure to have extra pies and rolls laid out for those of you who like to pick out your own! Just another reminder that we will be closing at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, so be sure to stop in before then! We wouldn’t want you to be without your favorite pie on Thanksgiving!

Don’t forget the noodles! We have the best noodles from Mrs. Miller and Walnut Creek. They come in wide, medium, and thin. We also have chicken broth from Walnut Creek to help you make the best noodles possible!

Thank you to St.Mary’s Elementary for doing a Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser! We enjoyed working with you!

Newsletter #58: Nov. 11-18

Happy Veterans Day! Many schools in our area had assemblies on Thursday to honor and celebrate the many veterans in our local communities. We got to hear from three wonderful individuals at MHS: Mr. Brian Welch (Ag teacher at MHS and Army Veteran), his wife, Mrs. Amy Welch (owner of Welch’s Urgent Care in Caldwell and Army Veteran), and Mr. James Waybright (retiree and now a substitute at MHS and Air Force and Army Veteran). The tunnel at MHS between the main building and the gym/auditorium has been dedicated to Mr. Waybright and is now called The James Waybright Corridor. We are so thankful for all of the brave men and women who serve and have served in one of our mighty military branches! We appreciate your service and sacrifice, and we support and love you!

I found some interesting facts about this special day. The Department of Defense is the largest employer in the United States. Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day which celebrated the end of WWI which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Also, did you know that there is no apostrophe in Veterans Day? Approximately 75% of all veterans served during wartime and only 25% during times of peace. And finally….there are over 16 million veterans living today, so please take the time to thank a veteran and support causes that help them!

The Interact Club at MHS has decided to focus on Veterans this year for our service projects. One project that is ongoing that I would love for you all to help us with is coupon collecting. We have adopted an Air Force base this school year in Spangdahlem, Germany. Our goal is to send coupons to the families at this base twice this school year. They can use coupons that have already expired, and they can use them interchangeably. For example, if they have a coupon for Cheerios, they could use it for a different cereal if they want. Overall, I think it’s a great program, and I love to think that we can do a small gesture that can make a big difference to our military personnel and their families! If you would like to help us, please drop off coupons to Huck’s, and I’ll make sure they get added with the ones the high school collects. You can learn more at https://ocpnet.org/. Thank you!

The Goellers are celebrating two birthdays in our house this week! Sydney is turning 8 today on Veterans Day, and Seth is going to be 15 on Tuesday! They are both big blessings to both Jim and me! Happy Birthday to you both! Your mother loves you so much! (Not that they are reading my newsletters….Lol.)

Here’s our update for outside….

The pie pumpkins and gourds we have are now just 50 cents each! Come and grab a armload!

Remember that the fall is a great time to reflect on last year’s garden. What grew well, what didn’t? Do you have a new type of perennial or vegetable you would like to grow? Does a plant need thinned out or a new spot with more sun or shade? Sometimes it’s nice to just relax and think about your garden without the pressure to get something done!

Here’s what’s happening on the inside….

Order your Thanksgiving pies! Here is a list of our yummy pies: Apple, Country Cinnamon Apple, Dutch Apple, Caramel Apple Walnut, Apple Walnut, Red Raspberry, Boysenberry, Pumpkin, Blueberry, Blackberry, Cherry, Pineapple Upside Down, Peach, Strawberry Rhubarb, Pecan, Chocolate Cream, and Coconut Cream! We are now taking orders! Call us at 740-373-2484.

You can also order fresh baked rolls (individual or pan rolls) and our homemade Cranberry Relish. You can order the cranberries with walnuts or without. We could also add some celery if you want a little bit of a crunch. Either way, it’s tasty! If you are still on the fence, ask for a spoonful at the deli, and see what you think!

We have another craft night coming on Friday, December 1st. We are offering two fun crafts that night! Check out the description below!

For those of you who like the Cinnamon Imperials…..Walnut Creek has finally gotten these back in stock! I’m not sure if this will be for good or just through Valentine’s Day, but I just ordered some, and they will be here on Wednesday! Yay!

Don’t forget about our other items in our bakery! These are baked fresh each and every morning. There are cinnamon rolls, breads, all types of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc.

Our deli has any type of meat or cheese you would like! It’s almost time for those charcuterie boards to come out for the holidays! That’s an easy way to entertain! And with Huck’s being voted “Best Deli” by The Marietta Times Reader’s Choice Award, you know that you are getting the very best available!

Some of you have been asking for a sherbet, so Raspberry Sherbet has arrived! I haven’t tried it, but Jim said it is VERY good. That’s saying something, because Jim’s favorite his whole life has always been Old Fashioned Vanilla. Sherbet only has about 1-2% dairy where ice cream has a least 10%. It also includes citric acid which makes it nice and tart! Pucker up for some Raspberry Sherbet in a cone or cup!

Our produce area is looking good! We are still able to get many different types of apples. In fact, we just in Rome apples and a shipment of Cortland. Apples are one of the best snacks, especially when you add a little caramel dip, peanut butter, or a little piece of salty cheese! Yum!

We are also still enjoying some WV homegrown tomatoes. These tomatoes have been babied through the frosts, so take advantage of these tasty fruits while you still can!

Local Kennebec potatoes from Lowell are available in both 10 and 50 pound bags. These creamy potatoes are great for mashing, stews, baked, boiled, etc. With a 50 pound bag, you will be sure to have potatoes for the winter!

Soup’s on! Here’s our tentative weekly menu:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Chili

Tuesday: Vegetable beef, Creamy Potato

Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Chicken with Wild Rice

Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Sausage Tortellini

Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Clam Chowder

Sew Cute Scrunchies restocked with some Christmas scrunchies! These make great stocking stuffers or pick one up now to wear with holiday outfits or at a Christmas celebration.

Our craft area is full of items for anytime, items for Fall, and items for Christmas. There are more items that still need to be put out, but as of right now, there is no room!

As the holidays are approaching, be sure to try seasonings and spices from Blue Heat and Sage and Co., candles from Duck Creek Candle Co., stationary and other small gifts from Forever Caroline, and soaps and scrubs from Cornerstone Homestead! The one thing you can guarantee when you buy from these small businesses, you are getting high quality and you are helping our local economy!

Huck’s can do all sorts of custom made meat, cheese, veggie, fruit, cookie, and sandwich trays. Newsletter #57: Nov. 3-10

It’s the first full week of November, and it’s time to turn back your clocks tonight! I enjoy getting more light in the morning, but I do not look forward to the dark evenings. Here is an interesting fact about daylight saving time….Benjamin Franklin actually came up with the idea about a century before it was adopted by any country. He thought it would save money because it would conserve candle wax. He also thought the dark mornings would make people stay in bed and be lazy (mentalfloss.com).

We have two craft nights that just got scheduled! We will be doing a Fall craft/Thanksgiving centerpiece craft night (adorable!) on Friday, November 10th, and TWO delightful Christmas crafts in one night on Friday, December 1st! I’ll be posting the details down below, so be sure to check that out!

Don’t forget to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, November 7th! Cam got trained to work the polls last week for Youth at the Booth, so I know he’s excited to get to do that! We are so fortunate to live in a country where our votes do count, and we can vote however we want! God Bless America!

Here’s our update for outside!

First of all, all of us at Huck’s would like to say thank you for a great Spring, Summer, and Fall! We love when the outside is full of color and beautiful blooms! We hope to keep growing the greenhouse area of Huck’s every year!

Ol’ Tom Turkey/Mr. Gobbles ,the inflatable turkey, is back outside! He’s getting all of us here at Huck’s in the mood for Turkey Day on November 23rd!

There are a few pie pumpkins left for 99 cents each! Grab one or two for your Thanksgiving table decor!

This time of year, the inside is where it’s a happening!

Want a less stressful lead up to Thanksgiving? Let Huck’s take the stress off of you by letting us do your baking! Our pan rolls come in packs of 10, and our individual rolls come by the 1/2 dozen.

In case you missed National Sandwich Day yesterday, stop in today or this week and get a fresh sandwich, flatbread, or sub at our Deli Sandwich Shop! There are so many combinations that you are sure to find one that is your favorite!

NEW ITEM ALERT! Our super popular Cranberry Salad will be in the Deli starting on Monday! This classic recipe can come with or without pecans. You can get it in an individual size, 1/2 lb., 1 lb, or 2 lb. container. We will make sure we have a full supply from now through Christmas! MMMMMM!

Here’s the menu for our from scratch daily soups for this upcoming week:

Monday: Chicken Noodle, Soup Beans with Ham
Tuesday: Creamy Potato, White Chicken Chili
Wednesday: Stuffed Pepper, Cream of Mushroom
Thursday: Chicken Noodle, Grandma’s Tomato Soup
Friday: Cheesy Broccoli, Creamy Potato with Ham

It’s the beginning of the month, so looks for restocks from many of our small business partners! Duck Creek Candle Co., Cornerstone Homestead, Sew Cute Scrunchies, and Sage and Co. all have been in or will be in the next day or so to stock up and freshen up and add to their inventory! These small business owners are just the best people, and we are proud to do business with them!

Yoder’s Good Health Recipe Tonic is back in stock!

EVENTS:

Friday, November 10th @ 6:30 p.m.: Mason Jar Thanksgiving Centerpiece

We will be stenciling Mason Jars with the saying “In This House (Icon) We Give Thanks”, filling them with acorns, potpourri, pine cones, and fairy twinkle lights! Then, we will add fall flowers to the top in three pretty bouquets. These will look perfect with a few pie pumpkins and taper candlesticks on a pretty fall runner! I can’t wait! The cost of this class is $50. A picture similar to what we will make is down below!

Friday, December 1st @ 6:30 p.m.: TWO Christmas Crafts!

So, we can enjoy the holiday, we are offering two pretty crafts that can both be completed in one evening! The first is a set of three DIY Wintry Jars. These different sized jars are painted with glue and sprinkled with Epsom salts to give it a textured snowy feel, with raffia and a small piece of garland hanging down! Craft #2 is a snowflake wreath using artificial tree limbs, a big wooden snowflake, and a big buffalo check bow! These will both be so fun to do! And the cost is only $60 and that includes everything you need for both crafts! Pictures of a similar craft is posted down below!
